West Central Legion Season Ends in Region Tournament

The West Central legion baseball team had their 2023 season come to an end in region play on Wednesday, July 19th.  Elkton ended the West Central year with a 7-6 victory in a walk off in the bottom of the seventh inning.

West Central did have an early lead in the game.  Keaton Vessells had an RBI sacrifice fly, and CJ DenBoer scored on an error in the top of the first inning for a 2-0 lead.  Andrew Zimmer added an RBI single, and Vessells scored on a wild pitch in the third inning to extend the lead to 4-0.  Elkton tied the game with a four-run third inning.

West Central was able to regain the lead.  Duece Sherard had an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning.  Maison Schult also had an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to push the West Central lead to 6-4.  Elkton, however, rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the win.

DenBoer had three hits, including a triple.  Sherard and Zimmer each had a hit and an RBI.  Domo Chandeswang added a double.  Vessells and Schult both had one RBI.  DenBoer pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on two hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  Schult pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed four earned runs on two hits and six walks with one strikeout.
