The West Central Legion baseball team played four games in three days at the Dakota Classic held Friday, June 12th through Sunday, June 14th. West Central finished 0-4 in those four games.
Chanhassen, MN 11, West Central 2
A 10-run top of the first inning put Chanhassen in the driver’s seat in a game played on Friday, June 12th. Chanhassen added another run in the top of the fourth for an 11-0 lead. West Central scored two times in the bottom of the fourth. Taylon Sichmeller had an RBI triple and later scored on an error.
Sichmeller had a triple and an RBI. Hayes Cain and Andrew Holtzman each had a single. Carson Jonson pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed nine runs, eight earned, on four hits and three walks. Aiden Lueth pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
Gana Trucking Hickman 18, West Central 3
West Central scored first in their second game of the day on Friday. Sichmeller had a two-run single for an early 2-0 lead. Gana Trucking Hickman scored 12 times in the bottom of the first. Cooper Ball had an RBI ground ball in the top of the second for a 12-3 score. Gana Trucking Hickman scored three times in the bottom of the second and another three runs in the bottom of the third.
Sichmeller had a hit and two RBIs. Karson Vessells had a double. Holtzman, Jonson, and CJ DenBoer each had a single. Ball had an RBI.
Post 15 West 17, West Central 9
After a scoreless first inning, Post 15 West scored two times in the bottom of the second for a 2-0 lead in a game played on Saturday, June 13th. West Central exploded for nine runs in the top of the third. Jonson had a bases-loaded walk, and Hayden Whiting was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the score 2-2. Holtzman scored on an error. Jett Whiting was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Vessells had an RBI single. Kane Grace drove home two with a double. Ball and Sichmeller each had an RBI ground out to go ahead 9-2. Post 15 West put three runs on the board in the bottom of the third to cut the score to 9-5. They got another run in the bottom of the fourth, but then scored 11 times in the bottom of the fifth for the 17-9 score.
Grace had a double with two RBIs. Vessells, J. Whiting, and Ball all had a hit and an RBI. Sichmeller, Jonson, H. Whiting, and Jackson all finished with one RBI each.
East Grand Forks 19, West Central 0
In their final game of the classic on Sunday, June 14th, West Central was held scoreless in a 19-0 three-inning game. East Grand Forks scored six times in the bottom of the first inning and then had a 13-run second inning.
