The West Central legion baseball team finished 1-2 at “The Rock” Tournament held in Madison. They defeated Beresford on Friday, June 26th, but they suffered losses to Groton and Hayfield on Saturday, June 27th.
West Central 4, Beresford 2
A three-run fourth inning was the difference for West Central in their win on Friday. Beresford scored a run in the top of the first for an early 1-0 lead. Maddax Jackson tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the second. Jett Whiting put West Central ahead 2-1 with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. Kane Grace later scored on a wild pitch, and Carson Johnson had an RBI ground out to extend the lead to 4-1. Beresford scored one more run in the top of the seventh.
Taylon Sichmeller and Grace both had two hits each. Johnson had a double with an RBI. J. Whiting and Jackson each had a single and an RBI. Cooper Ball also had an RBI. Grace pitched six innings and allowed an unearned run on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.
Groton 4, West Central 2
Groton scored the first three runs which proved to be enough for their 4-2 win on Saturday. They got a run in the top of the first and two more in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead. West Central scored two times in the bottom of the third to make the score 3-2, but Groton scored one more run in the top of the fourth. and then held West Central the rest of the game.
Lando Whiting had a single and two RBIs. Hayes Cain, Ball, and J. Whiting all had one hit each. Jericho Klein pitched six innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
Hayfield 15, Groton 6
After West Central scored a run in the top of the first, Hayfield scored eight times in the bottom of the inning and then had three more in the bottom of the second for an 11-1 lead. West Central scored three times in the top of the third, but Hayfield had four more runs on the bottom of the third. West Central got two more runs in the top of the fifth.
Grace had a single and three RBIs. H. Whiting had a home run and an RBI. L. Whiting finished with a single and an RBI. Ball and Johnson each had a single as well.
