West Central Legion Drops Three in a Row

The West Central Legion baseball team has recently entered into a three-game skid.  They dropped their last three games, played on Wednesday, July 5th, Thursday, July 6th, and Sunday, July 9th.

Tea Tincaps 11, West Central 6

The Tincaps took the lead with two runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed.  They added three more runs in the top of the third for a 5-0 lead.  West Central cut the lead to just one, 5-4, after a four-run bottom of the third.  Tea, however, scored three more times in the top of the fourth to make it 8-4.  West Central got within two, 8-6, with a two-run sixth inning, but Tea put the game away with another three-run inning in the seventh.

Keaton Vessells had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Will Nester finished with two hits.  Duece Sherard had a hit and an RBI.  CJ DenBoer had a double.  Connor Siemonsma and Andrew Zimmer both added a single.  Maison Schult had two RBIs.  Gage Nelson finished with one RBI.  Schult pitched four innings and allowed eight runs, six earned, on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Vessells pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits and five walks with three strikeouts.  DenBoer pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out one.

Vermillion 2, West Central 1

Vermillion broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the top of the fifth, which proved to be the game-winning run.  The other run for Vermillion was scored in the top of the first inning.  West Central tied the game in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Zimmer.

Zimmer finished with a single and an RBI.  Domo Chandeswang had two doubles.  Derek Renken also had a double.  Renken and Mason Behrens both had an RBI.  Renken pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed two runs, both unearned, on three hits and six walks with eight strikeouts.

Flandreau 13, West Central 8

Flandreau built a 7-0 lead in the first two innings which was enough to keep them in front the rest of the game.  West Central pulled with two, 7-5, after three runs in the top of the third and two in the fourth.  Flandreau then scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth to extend the lead to 11-5.  West Central got another run in the sixth and two in the seventh.  Flandreau had two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Vessells had three hits and an RBI.  Siemonsma had two singles and two RBIs.  Sherard also had two hits and an RBI.  Nester finished with two singles and an RBI.  Renken added a single and an RBI.  Cain Grocott had a double.  Nelson, DenBoer, and Behrens all had a single.  Zimmer pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed seven earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.  Nelson pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed six runs, two earned, on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
