The West Central Legion baseball team won two games on back-to-back nights. They traveled to Volga on Tuesday, June 27th and then hosted Flandreau on Wednesday, June 28th.
West Central 14, Volga 2
West Central turned a close game into a big win with a huge seventh inning. The lead for West Central was only 5-2 after six innings of play. West Central would then score nine times in the top of the seventh to blow the game open and take the win.
Will Nester finished with four hits, one a double, and four RBIs. Connor Siemonsma had three hits, including a double, and and two RBIs. Domo Chandeswang and Andrew Zimmer both had two singles and an RBI each. CJ DenBoer finished with a double and two RBIs. Gage Nelson and Mason Behrens both had a single and an RBI. Duece Sherard had a double. Mason Schult pitched all seven innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.
West Central 9, Flandreau 8
West Central broke a 5-5 tie and scored just enough runs to hold off Flandreau on Wednesday for the 9-8 with. Both teams scored three runs in the first and two more in the third for a 5-5 tie. Flandreau got one run in the top of the fourth, but West Central scored two times for a 7-6 lead. After Flandreau tied the game in the top of the fifth, West Central got a single run in both the fifth and sixth innings to go ahead 9-7. Flandreau got one run in the top of the seventh, but Owen Heath got a strikeout to end the game.
Chandeswang finished with three hits, one a double. Siemonsma had two doubles and two RBIs. Derek Renken also had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Nester had two hits, one a double. Nelson had a single and an RBI. Sherard had one hit, and Zimmer had an RBI. Zimmer pitched four innings and allowed six runs, all earned, on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Heath pitched three innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
