The West Central 16U baseball team hosted the I-29 League tournament Friday, June 16th through Sunday, June 18th. West Central played one game each day and finished the weekend winning two of those games.
West Central 17, Tri-Valley Maroon 2
Early and often scoring fueled a win over Tri-Valley Maroon on Friday. They scored four runs in the first, four runs in the second, and six in the third for a 14-0 lead. After Tri-Valley scored two times in the top of the fourth, West Central got three more runs and ended the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Keaton Vessells had two hits, one a triple, and four RBIs. Jesse Jost finished with two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. CJ DenBoer and Nick Lorang both had two hits and an RBI each. Landen Holewa finished with a double and an RBI. Bubba Kono and Anthony Lanham both had a single. Zach Lorang had an RBI. Vessells pitched all four innings allowing two earned runs on a hit and four walks with nine strikeouts.
West Central 12, Garretson 2
West Central again scored in every inning in a 12-2 win over Garretson on Saturday. Garretson scored the first run in the top of the first. West Central took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first and then added three more in the second. Garretson got another run in the top of the third to cut the lead to 5-2. West Central then scored four times in the bottom of the third and three in the bottom of the fourth.
Kono had three hits, including a double, and an RBI. N. Lorang also had three hits and an RBI. Lanham had two hits, one a double, and four RBIs. Cain Grocott added a single and two RBIs. DenBoer had a single and an RBI. Jost and Carter Evans each had two hits. Lanham pitched five innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
Madison Gold 12, West Central 6
West Central and Madison were tied 2-2 after two innings of play, but Madison scored six times in the bottom of the third and four more in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead 12-2. West Central rallied for four runs in the top of the fifth, but was held scoreless in the final two innings.
Holewa had three hits, including a double. Z. Lorang had two hits, one a double, and an RBI. Kono also had two hits and an RBI. N. Lorang added two hits, including a double. Evans finished with a single and two RBIs. Joost and DenBoer each had a double and an RBI. Holewa pitched three innings and allowed eight runs, but just one earned, on two hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Kono pitched two innings allowing two walks with a strikeout. DenBoer pitched one inning and allowed four earned runs on three hits and two walks with one strikeout.
