The West Central 16U baseball team hosted both Garretson and Tri-Valley Maroon on Monday, June 12th. West Central earned a split in those two games.
Garreston 6, West Central 5
West Central held a 3-0 lead after four innings of play, but Garretson rallied in the final three innings to steal a 6-5 victory. Garretson got one run in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth to tie the game 3-3. West Central regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Garretson scored three times in the top of the seventh for a 6-4 lead. West Central scored in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 6-5 and had the bases loaded with only one out. Garretson was able to induce a pop up and a groundout to stop the rally and secure the win.
Carter Evans had two hits and an RBI. CJ DenBoer also had a single and an RBI. Keaton Vessells finished with a double. Jesse Jost and Nick Loreng both had one hit each. DenBoer pitched six innings allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. Bubba Kono pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing two runs, both unearned on a walk. Vessells pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing an unearned run while striking out one.
West Central 8, Tri-Valley Maroon 1
West Central, playing as the away team in the game, scored six runs in the first two innings to cruise to an 8-1 win. They scored four runs in the first and two in the second. Tri-Valley scored their only run in the bottom of the second. West Central added two more runs in the top of the fourth.
DenBoer had three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Zach Lorang had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Kono had two hits and an RBI. Jost finished with a triple and a double. Cain Grocott also had two hits. Vessells added a single and an RBI. Evens had an RBI. Anthony Lanham pitched six innings allowing an unearned run on three hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts.
