Trojans Fall in Battle of #1s

The Winner Warriors used a big second half to beat the West Central Trojans in the battle of #1 teams on Friday, October 7th in Winner.

The Warriors scored on their first offensive play of the game on a 61-yard run with 10:42 to play in the opening quarter.  The made two-point conversion gave Winner an 8-0 lead.  The score remained 8-0 through the rest of the first quarter.

Winner added to the lead on a 17-yard touchdown run with 7:18 to play in the second quarter.  Another made two-point conversion pushed the lead to 16-0.  The Trojans scored right before halftime.  Justin Zirpel had a 13-yard touchdown pass to Crew Heier.  West Central trailed 16-6 at halftime.

The Warriors put two scores on the board in the third quarter.  The first touchdown was a 43-yard run with 9:48 to play.  The defense got two points with 5:13 to go.  After a punt that was downed at the one-yard line, the Warriors got a safety to make the score 24-6.

Winner added to the lead early in the fourth quarter on a nine-yard run with 10:31 to play.  West Central scored on the kickoff when Jesse Jost returned the kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown with 10:14 to go.  The Warriors put the game out of reach with two more scores.  They had a 37-yard touchdown run with 6:50 to play and then a five-yard touchdown with 4:13 to go.
