Tri-Valley Baseball Falls Short in Season Opener

The Tri-Valley high school club baseball team had two leads against Tea, but ultimately dropped the game 16-5 in their season opener on Saturday, April 8th.

Tri-Valley scored four runs in the top of the first inning with two outs.  Alex Wingen scored on an error, Tyler Groenewold had an RBI single, Nathan Madison also scored on an error, and then Groenewold scored on a catcher’s interference to give Tri-Valley an early 4-0 lead.  Tea also had a big first inning and tied the game 4-4.

The score remained 4-4 until the top of the fourth inning.  Wingen had an RBI single bringing home Everett Althoff to put Tri-Valley back in front 5-4.  Tea, however, scored seven times in the bottom of the fourth, and then five more runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Groenewald finished with two hits and an RBI.  Wingen had a single and an RBI.  Althoff also had a single.  Gage Egger had an RBI.  Groenewold pitched three innings and allowed four earned runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Kaden Egger pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits and a walk.  Brody Dybvig pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed six runs, four earned, on two hits and three walks.
