The Tri-Valley Mustangs suffered a loss against the Parkston Trojans at home on Monday, September 30th. The match went five sets with the Trojans winning by set scores of 29-31, 25-18, 25-14, 20-25, and 15-12.
The first set of the match set the tone for an exciting night of volleyball. Tri-Valley started with a quick 3-1 lead. They maintained a lead all the way to 11-10. Parkston rallied for a 6-1 run to take a 16-12 lead. The Mustangs answered and tied the score 17-17. The score was tied again 21-21 before Parkston took a 24-22 lead. Tri-Valley tied the set 24-24. The two teams traded points all the way to a 29-29 tie. The Mustangs then scored the final two points for a 31-29 win.
The second set started with the Trojans holding a 6-3 lead. Tri-Valley tied the set 6-6, and the two teams were tied 9-9 and again at 11-11. Parkston then went on a 6-0 run for a 17-11 lead. That run kept them in front the rest of the way to a 25-18 win. Momentum followed Parkston into the third set. They started with a 3-1 lead and kept building on it from there. They extended the lead to 9-5 then to 15-8 and 24-14 before winning 25-14.
The Mustangs grabbed the momentum from Parkston to start the fourth set. Tri-Valley raced to an early 8-1 lead and never looked back. They pushed the advantage to 12-5 and then 18-9. Parkston rallied a bit too cut the lead to 22-15 and tried to keep rallying, but Tri-Valley ended with a 25-20 win.
In the fifth and final set, Tri-Valley started fast again. They led 4-1 and then extended that lead to 7-1. The Trojans slowly climbed out of the hole and got within a point at 11-10. Parkston then went on a 3-0 run to take a 13-11 lead, which gave them enough of an advantage to win 15-12.
