Mustang Softball Wins Back and Forth Game Against Madison

The Tri-Valley Mustangs pulled out a 9-8 win over the Madison Bulldogs in Crooks on Tuesday, March 31st.  The Mustangs scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to win the back-and-forth contest.

Madison opened the game with two runs in the top of the first inning.  Isabella Wetmore-Ocampo delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the first that resulted in three runs for the Mustangs after the play was over giving Tri-Valley a 3-2 lead.  The Bulldogs took the lead back, 4-3, with two runs in the top of the second inning.  Mattie Huwe had a a two-run single, and Kadence Davey scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the second to give the lead right back to Tri-Valley, 6-4.

Syenna Halverson had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Mustang lead to 7-4.  Madison would rally for two runs in the top of the fifth to pull within a run, 7-6.  The Bulldogs would take the lead in the top of the sixth, 8-7, with two more runs.  Ava Christensen tied the game with an RBI single.  Wetmore-Ocampo delivered the game-winning RBI, a ground out to second that scored Emry Jones.

Jones finished with two hits in the game.  Wetmore-Ocampo had a single and three RBIs.  Huwe added a hit and two RBIs.  Christensen and Halverson each had a single and an RBI.  Davey also had a hit.  Jones pitched six innings and allowed eight runs, five earned, on 10 hits and two walks with six strikeouts.  Davey pitched an inning and walked one batter.
