Big Third Innings Lifts Tri-Valley Baseball to Win over Flandreau

The Tri-Valley high school baseball team used a nine-run third inning on their way to a 16-6 victory over Flandreau on Thursday, April 25th.

Jackson Williams scored on a passed ball, and Everett Althoff scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning for an early 2-0 lead.  After Flandreau scored a run in the top of the second, Tri-Valley scored three more in the bottom of the inning.  Tristen Bunde had an RBI ground out, and Cody Lofswold and Althoff both had an RBI single for a 5-1 lead.

Flandreau added another run in the top of the third.  Tri-Valley’s offense then had their big nine-run inning.  Lofswold had an RBI single.  Hunter Foster was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  Althoff had an RBI sacrifice fly.  Treyson Richter and Carter Sorenson both followed with RBI singles.  Later in the inning Tyler Groenewold had an RBI single, and Bunde added another RBI single.  Flandreau scored four runs in the top of the fourth making the score 14-6.  Tri-Valley ended the game on the 10-run rule after Brechen Frederick scored on a passed ball and Alex Wingen scored on a balk.

Bunde and Lofswold both had two singles and two RBIs each.  Althoff had a hit and two RBIs.  Ricther, Sorenson, and Groenewold all had a single and one RBI each.  Wingen finished with a triple.  Frederick and Nathan Madison each had one hit.  Foster added one RBI.  Frederick pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed one walk with three strikeouts.  Richter pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on a hit and five walks with one strikeout.  Wingen pitched two innings and gave up an unearned run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
