The Colton Yard Goat legion team picked up two wins in the regional tournament held at Augustana University in Sioux Falls on Tuesday, July 21st. The Yard Goats earned wins over Woonsocket and Castlewood.
Colton 20, Woonsocket 5
The Yard Goats put nine runs on the board in the top of the first to lead them to an opening round win over Woonsocket. Woonsocket scored twice in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 9-2. Colton had another nine-run inning in the top of the fourth to make the score 18-2. Woonsocket scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Yard Goats added two more runs in the top of the fifth. The game ended on the 10-run rule after Woonsocket was only able to get one run in the bottom of the fifth.
Brody Dybvig finished with three hits and an RBI. Treyson Richter had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. Denton Bicknase had double and single with four RBIs. Alex Wingen also had two hits with four RBIs. Jackson Williams added two singles and three RBIs. Mason Hemme had a double and single with two RBIs. Cole Hendrickson had a double with two RBIs. Braxton Allen had a single. Williams pitched five innings and allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits and four walks with four strikeouts.
Colton 6, Castlewood 5
A two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh gave Colton a win over Castlewood. The Yard Goats struck first with a run in the bottom of the first. Castlewood put two runs on the board in the top of the second to take the lead 2-1. Colton tied the game in the bottom of the second and then went back in front 4-2 with a two-run bottom of the fourth. Castlewood cut the lead down to one, 4-3, with a single run in the top of the fifth. They would go in front 5-4 with two runs in the top of the sixth. With one out and one on base, Alex Wingen hit an inside-the-park home run to center field to win the game for the Yard Goats.
Parker Hemme had two hits in the game. Wingen had a home run and two RBIs. Richter added a triple and two RBIs. Tristen Bunde had a single with an RBI. Dybvig had a double. Williams finished with a single, and Bicknase had an RBI. M. Hemme pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on a hit and six walks with six strikeouts. Allen tossed 1 2/3 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on a hit and two walks and two strikeouts. Dybvig pitched one inning and struck out three batters.
