The Colton Yard Goats legion baseball team split two games over a span of three days. They defeated Dell Rapids on Wednesday, July 15th but fell to Vermillion on Friday, July 17th.
Colton 10, Dell Rapids 4
First inning runs help the Yard Goats to a 10-4 win over the Dell Rapids Phils. Colton picked up three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-0 lead. Dell Rapids cut the lead to 3-2 with two runs in the top of the second. The Yard Goats put together a big six-run bottom of the third for a 9-2 lead. Dell Rapids added two more runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 9-4. Colton added another run in the bottom of the fifth.
Brody Dybvig had three hits, one a double. Mason Hemme added two singles and an RBI. Parker Hemme also had two singles. Denton Bicknase and Jackson Williams both had a single and an RBI each. Treyson Ricther had a single, and Braxton Allen had three RBIs. Tristen Bunde pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on five hits and six walks with four strikeouts. Bicknase tossed 2 1/3 innings and had one strikeout.
Vermillion 11, Colton 3
Vermillion snapped a three game winning streak for the Yard Goats. Each team scored two runs in the first inning. Vermillion put four runs on the board in the bottom of the second for a 6-2 lead. Each team would score a run in the third inning. Vermillion had another four-run inning in the bottom of the fifth.
Richter had a single with two RBIs. Cole Hendrickson added a double. Alex Wingen, Braxton Allen, and M. Hemme all had a hit. Bicknase ended with an RBI. Allen pitched three innings and allowed five runs, but just one earned, on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Wingen tossed two innings and gave up six runs, just one earned, on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
