Yard Goats Push Winning Streak to Three

The Colton Yard Goats legion baseball team pushed their winning streak to three with a couple of wins recently.  They had a big 25-3 win over Lake Norden/Badger on Saturday, June 20th.  They followed that with a close 3-2 victory over Vermillion on Monday, June 22nd.

Despite the big margin of victory, the big blow for Colton didn’t come until the top of the seventh inning.  Colton took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first.  Lake Norden/Badger got a run in the bottom of the first inning.  The Yard Goats would get five runs in the top of the third and one more in the fifth for a 9-1 lead.  Lake Norden/Badger scored two times in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 9-3.  Colton was get three runs in the top of the sixth for a 12-3 lead.  They then had a big 13-run top of the seventh.

Jackson Williams had three hits and two RBIs.  Brody Dybvig finished with two doubles and a single with an RBI.  Alex Wingen had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs.  Tristen Bunde added two singles and four RBIs.  Mason Hemme had two hits and two RBIs.  Treyson Richter ended with a home run and a single with an RBI.  Cole Hendrickson had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Ty Oyen also picked up a double and an RBI.  Parker Hemme, Owen Effling, and Owen Bunde all had one hit each.

Dybvig pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits and six walks with four strikeouts.  Williams threw 2 1/3 innings and allowed a hit and two walks with five strikeouts.

Colton 3, Vermillion 2

A two-run bottom of the fifth for Colton was the difference in the game against Vermillion.  Colton scored first with a run in the bottom of the opening inning.  Vermillion tied the game with a run in the second.  The score remained 1-1 until the bottom of the fifth.  Richter broke the tie with an RBI single, and Denton Bicknase followed with an RBI double for a 3-1 lead.  Vermillion got one run back in the top of the sixth with just one out, but Colton was able to stop the rally with a force out at home and a strikeout.  Vermillion tried to rally again in the seventh, but Colton got an out on an attempt to steal home and then finished the game with another strikeout.

Richter had three hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Bicknase had two hits, including a double, with an RBI. Dybvig, Bunde, and P. Hemme all had one hit each.  Bunde pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed an unearned run on two hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  Braxton Allen pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed an earned run on three hits and a walk with a strikeout.  Wingen threw one inning and had four strikeouts.
