Watchdogs Get Revenge on Mustang Softball

Two days after falling to the Tri-Valley Mustangs at the Watchdog Classic, the Beresford Watchdogs defeated the Mustangs 8-7 in Beresford on Monday, May 11th.

Isabella Wetmore-Ocampo drove home the first two runs of the game in the top of the second.  Beresford tied the game, 2-2, with a couple of runs in the bottom of the third.  The Watchdogs took their first lead, 3-2, with a run in the bottom of the fourth.  Haleigh Wallenstein tied the game with a triple in the top of the fifth.  Emry Jones followed with an RBI single to put the Mustangs ahead 4-3.

After a scoreless fifth inning, Beresford took the lead back, 6-4, in the bottom of the sixth with three runs.  Jones put Tri-Valley back in front with a one-out three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning.  Unfortunately for the Mustangs, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Riley Laurvick hit a two-run home run to win the game.

Jones had two hits, one a home run, and four RBIs.  Wetmore-Ocampo added two singles and two RBIs.  Mattie Huwe and Rowyn Gacke both ended with a single and double.  Wallenstein had a triple and an RBI.  Ava Christensen and Syenna Halverson both had one single.  Jones pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed eight runs, four earned, on seven hits and three walks with 12 strikeouts.
