Tri-Valley Mustang Softball Wins Three at Watchdog Classic

The Tri-Valley Mustang softball team earned three more wins at the Watchdog Classic in Beresford on Saturday, May 9th to improve to 13-1 on the season.

Tri-Valley 16, Dell Rapids 0

The Mustangs had a 15-run third inning in their 16-0 win over the Quarriers while holding Dell Rapids hitless.  After a scoreless first inning, Ava Christensen had an RBI sacrifce fly in the second for a 1-0 lead.  With one out in the bottom of the third, the Mustangs had 11 total hits and took advantage of three errors in the inning for the big win.

Emry Jones had three hits and three RBIs.  Hailey Sorenson added two singles and four RBIs.  Syenna Halverson ended with two hits and an RBI.  Christensen had a single and two RBIs.  Rowyn Gacke, Mattie Huwe, and Isabella Wetmore-Ocampo all had a hit and an RBI.  Kadence Davey also had a hit.  Jones pitched three innings walking two batters and striking out six.

Tri-Valley 4, Sioux Falls Christian 3

The Mustangs built a 4-1 lead and then stopped a Charger rally in the top of the seventh to get the win.  Sioux Falls Christian scored a run in the top of the first.  The Mustangs responded two runs in the bottom of the inning on RBIs by Davey and Jones.  The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the fifth.  Davey had a two-run double to extend the lead to 4-1.  The Chargers scored two times in the top of the seventh and had the tying run on third, but a ground out to Jones ended the game.

Davey had two hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Jones finished with a single and an RBI.  Gacke ended with a triple.  Huwe, Haleigh Wallenstein, and Wetmore-Ocampo all had one hit each.  Davey pitched six innings and allowed two unearned runs on three hits and five walks with nine strikeouts.  Jones pitched one inning and allowed an earned run on a hit and two walks.

Tri-Valley 16, Beresford 5

An early lead helped the Mustangs get the third win on the day.  Tri-Valley scored four times right away in the bottom of the first.  Beresford scored one time in the top of the third, but the Mustangs had a six-run bottom of the third for a 10-1 lead.  The Watchdogs put four runs on the board in the top of the fourth to make the score 10-5.  Tri-Valle would have a big six-run bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 16-5.  The game ended on the 10-run rule after the top of the fifth.

Gacke ended with two hits and three RBIs.  Christensen had two hits, one a home run, and two RBIs.  Davey and Jones both had two hits and two RBIs each.  Wallenstein added a double and an RBI.  Halverson and Wetmore-Ocampo both had a hit and an RBI.  Huwe also had a hit.  Jones pitched five innings and allowed five runs, all unearned, on six hits and two walks with nine strikeouts.
