Cardinal Golf Season Comes to End at Regions

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal golf team had their season come to an end at the Region 2B meet in Brookings on Tuesday, May 25th.

Avery Haskell finished with a round of 108 and placed 18th individually, just missing the cutoff for state qualification.  The qualifying cutoff was the top 15 places with a round of 102.

The boys qualifying cutoff for regions was a round of 94.  Noah Olund fell a little short of that with a round of 103.  Wyatt Geraets finished with a 135, and Brandon Cook had a round of 139.

Cardinal Girls Runner-Up, Boys 5th at Region 4B Track Meet

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals were at the Region 4B track meet in Chester on Thursday, May 20th.

The girls were the runner-up team with a total of 111 points.  Colman-Egan finished first with 196 points.  The boys team finished fifth with 55 points.

Ella Heinitz had three first place finishes on the day.  She won the 100m dash with a time of :12.32.  E. Heinitz won the 200m dash with a time of :25.34.  She also placed first in the 400m dash with a time of :57.75.  Madala Hanson had two first place finishes.  Hanson won the 1600m run with a time of 5:37.21 and won the 3200m run with a time of 12:41.25.  Jaycee Tebay had a second place finish in the discus.

Jacob Vogel was the region champion in the 3200m run with a time of 11:05.35.   He also finished second in the 1600m run.  The 4x400m relay team of Lucas Flemmer, Nic Gaspar, Sam Palmer, and Connor Libis also placed second.

The State B Track Meet will be held in Rapid City at O’Harra Memorial Stadium on the campus of South Dakota School of Mines & Technology on May 28th and 29th.

St Mary Boys 3rd, Girls 4th, at DVC Track Meet

The 2021 Dakota Valley Conference track meet was held in Estelline on Thursday, May 13th.  The Cardinal boys finished third as a team with 99.5 points.  The girls team was fourth with 85 points.  Elkton-Lake Benton won the boys team title, and Colman-Egan won the girls title.

Madala Hanson took home the conference title in the 400m dash with a time of 1:02.67.  Hanson also won the 3200m run in a time of 12:29.46.  Courtney Brown was second in the 100m dash.  Jaycee Tebay was second in the discus.  Maya Heinitz had a third place finish in the 400m dash.  Lauren Rasmussen was third in the 3200m run, and the 4x100m relay team of Josie Baumberger, Sophie Schwebach, Sydney Klein, and Brown also had a third place finish.

Lucas Flemmer was conference champ for the boys in the 100m dash with a time of :11.39.  Noah Dennis won the discus with a throw of 124’01”.  Connor Libis placed second in the 800m run.  Nic Gaspar was second in the 300m hurdles.  The 4x800m relay team of Libis, Thomas Eining, Sam Palmer, and Jacob Vogel also had a second place finish.  Vogel finished third in the 3200m run.

St Mary will be at the Region 4B meet in Chester on Thursday, May 20th.

Cardinal Golfers Compete in DVC Tourney at Rocky Run

Rocky Run Golf Course was the host for this year’s Dakota Valley Conference golf tournament on Monday, May 10th.

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys team finished 8th with a total score of 361.  Deubrook won the team title with a score of 265.

Noah Olund finished with a round of 109.  Brandon Cook finished with a 116, and Wyatt Geraets finished with a score of 136.

Avery Haskell was the lone varsity girl’s golfer for the Cardinals.  She finished with a round of 131.

Records Continue to Fall in 2021 for Cardinal Track

Records continue to keep falling in the 2021 season for the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal track team.  Two more records were broken at the Dell Rapids Invite on Monday, May 10th.

The girls 4x100m relay team of Madala Hanson, Courtney Brown, Josie Baumberger, and Ella Heinitz broke the school record with a time of :51.9 (third place finish), which beats the old record of :53.04.  The sprint medley relay team of Hanson, Maya Heinitz, E. Heinitz, and Courtney Brown also broke the school record with a time of 4:21.55 and placed first in the event.  The old record was 4:32.64.

Jaycee Tebay had a fourth place finish in the discus.  M. Heinitz was fourth in the 400m run, and Lauren Rasmussen had a fourth place finish in the 3200m run.

For the boys team, Jacob Vogel won the 3200m run with a time of 10:52.47.  Connor Libis placed second in the 800m run.  Nic Gaspar also had a second place finish in the 300m hurdles, and Noah Dennis was second in the discus.

The boys team finished fourth with a total of 67 points on the day.  The girls team had 32 points and finished seventh as a team.

St Mary Golfers Play in Colman-Egan Invite

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal golfers traveled to Colman for the Colman-Egan Invite on Thursday, May 7th.  Six total golfers competed in the invite.

Avery Haskell, St Mary’s lone varsity girls golfer, placed fifth individually with a round of 122.

Noah Olund had the low score for the boys with a round of 105.  Brandon Cook finished just a few shots behind at 108.  Wyatt Geraets finished with a 126.  Aiden Allen had a round of 135, and Aiden Geraets had a round of 138.

The Cardinals will be at the Dakota Valley Conference tournament on Monday, May 10th at Rocky Run Golf Course in Dell Rapids.

Cardinal Golfers Compete in Garretson and Baltic

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal golf team recently had two tournaments.  They played in the Jesse James Invite in Garretson on Friday, April 30th, and then played in the Baltic Invite in Renner on Tuesday, May 4th.

On Friday Avery Haskell finished with a round of 58.  Noah Olund had a round of 43 and placed sixth.  Brandon Cook finished with a round of 56.

Both Olund and Cook played again on Monday.  Monday’s event was 18 holes.  Olund placed 12th with a total of 102.  Cook finished 21st with a round of 110.

The Cardinals will be playing in the Dakota Valley Conference tournament which will be held at Rocky Run Golf Course on Monday, May 10th.

St Mary Track Has Most Successful Howard Wood Meet

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal track team had their most successful Howard Wood Dakota Relay meet in school history on Friday, April 30th and Saturday, May 1st.  The team also set more school records over the weekend.

The girls 4x200m relay team of Courtney Brown, Madala Hanson, Josie Baumberger, and Ella Heinitz won with a time of 1:47.80, setting a new school record.  The 4x400m relay team of Maya Heinitz, Hanson, Baumberger, and E. Heinitz also won with a time of 4:12.39, breaking the school record they set earlier in the year by five seconds.  E. Heinitz placed second in the 100m dash with a time of :12.28.  The 4x800m relay team of M. Heinitz, Hanson, Stephanie Geraets, and Addy Gilbert had a fifth place finish.  Hanson placed sixth in the 1600m run with a time of 5:19.46, which beat the previous school record held by Christina Vogel by :13.58 seconds!  E. Heinitz also finished seventh in the 200m special event with a time of :26.35.

The boys 4x800m relay team of Connor Libis, Sam Palmer, Thomas Eining, and Jacob Vogel had a sixth place finish with a time of 9:08.50.

Some of the other members of the St Mary track team participated in the O’Gorman Invitational in Sioux Falls on Friday, April 30th.

Courtney Brown had a fourth place finish in the 100m dash.  The 4x100m relay team of Sophie Schwebach, Ella Griffin, Sydney Klein, and Brown placed eighth.  The 4x200m relay team of Schwebach, Griffin, Klein and Brown also had an eighth place finish.   Seth Roemen placed third in the 300m hurdles with a time of :48.20.

The Cardinals will be at the Baltic Invitational in Baltic on Tuesday, May 4th.

St Mary Golf Hosts Tournament

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal golf team hosted the St Mary Invite on Tuesday, April 27th.

At Rocky Run Golf Course, the girls played the back nine holes, and Avery Haskell finished with a round of 63.   The boys played the front nine holes, and Noah Olund had a round of 48.  Brandon Cook finished with a 58.  Aiden Geraets had a 74.  Wyat Geraets finished with 77.  Levi Gaul had 80, and Aiden Allen had an 81.

St Mary has been able to play in a few other tournaments on the season.  On Tuesday, April 20th, Cook had a round of 49, Olund a round of 60, and Haskell a round of 59 at the Chester Invite.  Olund placed 15th with a round of 55 at the Flandreau Invite on April 22nd.  Cook had a round of 58, and Haskell had a round of 63 at the tournament.  Cook went to the Deubrook Invite on Friday, April 23rd, and had a round of 51.  Cook and Olund also played in Castlewood on Monday, April 26th.  Cook had a round of 49, and Olund had a round of 54.

The Cardinal golf teams are scheduled to be at the Jesse James Invite in Garretson on Friday, April 30th.

Cardinal Girls Finish Fourth, Boys Fifth at Pat Giligan-Alumni Track Meet

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal track team had another good showing on Tuesday, April 27th.  The Cardinals traveled to Estelline for the Pat Giligan-Alumni Track Meet.  Twenty-one different schools participated in the meet.

The girls team finished fourth with a total of 56 points.  Colman-Egan won the girls team title with 129.5 points.  The boys team finished fifth with 58 total points.  Estelline/Hendricks won the boys title with 86.33 points.

Madala Hanson had a first place finish in the 800m run with a time of 2:33.95 and then had a first place finish in the 1600m run with a time of 5:37.95.  The 4x200m relay team (Josie Baumberger, Maya Heinitz, Sydney Klein, Courtney Brown) had a second place finish.

The boys teams had several second place finishers.  Connor Libis finished second in the 800m run.  Jacob Vogel was second in the 1600m run.  The 4x800m relay team (Thomas Eining, Sam Palmer, Vogel, Libis) placed second.  Noah Dennis was second in the discus as well.

The Cardinals will be in Sioux Falls on Friday, April 30th for the O’Gorman Invitational.
