Mudcats Cruise into State Tournament with Big Win over Madison in District 4B

The Dell Rapids Mudcats cruised into the state tournament with an 11-0 win over the Madison Broncos in the District 4B Tournament in Humboldt on Tuesday, July 28th.  A big sixth inning led to the 10-run rule victory.

Kason Syverson started the scoring for the Mudcats with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning.  Landon Ruesink scored on an error in the bottom of the third to put the Mudcats ahead 3-0.  The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning.

Ty Hoglund started the sixth with a two-run home run to right field.  Henry drove home a run later in the inning to make the score 6-0.  Josh Roemen and Billy Stitz had back-to-back RBI singles to push the lead to 8-0.  Syverson reached on an error that also scored a run.  Reece Arbogast had an RBI single, and Syverson scored on a wild pitch to cap off the eight-run sixth inning.

Stitz had three hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Roemen ended with two singles and an RBI.  Syverson had a home run with three RBIs.  Hoglund also had a home run with two RBIs in the game.  Arborgast added a single with an RBI.  Carter Gullickson and Jake Goble each had a hit, and Henry added an RBI.

Three pitchers combined for the shutout win.  Syverson pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed a hit and six walks with four strikeouts.  Goble tossed 3 2/3 innings and recorded six strikeouts.  Henry pitched one inning and allowed two walks.

The Mudcats will face fellow Dell Rapids foe, PBR, in the District 4B Championship on Saturday, August 1st at 5:30 p.m. in Humboldt.  Regardless of the outcome of the game, both teams will be in the state tournament.
