The Dell Rapids Quarrier softball team finished 0-3 at the Watchdog Classic in Beresford on Saturday, May 9th. The Quarriers faced Sioux Falls Christian, Tri-Valley, and Florence/Henry.
Sioux Falls Christian 2, Dell Rapids 0
Runs were hard to come by for both teams in the game. The score was tied 0-0 until the fifth inning. The Chargers were able to get on the board with a run in the bottom of the fifth. They added another run in the bottom of the sixth for the 2-0 lead.
Lexi Scherff and Gabriella Carstensen each had two hits. Ella Johnson and Emma Lanpher both had one hit each. Scherff pitched six innings and allowed two runs, both unearned, on seven hits and three walks with one strikeout.
Tri-Valley 16, Dell Rapids 0
The Mustangs exploded for 15 runs in the bottom of the third to help them to a 16-0 win over Dell Rapids. Neither team scored in the first inning. Tri-Valley scored one run in the bottom of the second. They then had 11 hits in third inning for the big inning.
Dell Rapids was held hitless in the game. Scherff and Josie Becker drew walks in the game as the only base runners. Emily Backer pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed eight earned runs on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Scherff allowed eight runs on eight hits.
Florence/Henry 15, Dell Rapids 5
Aisley Grib had an RBI triple, and Carstensen added an RBI single in the top of the first for an early 2-0 lead for the Quarriers. The Falcons scored one run in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 score. They would five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-2 lead. Lanpher stole home, and Sylea Sykes had an RBI triple in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 6-4. Florence/Henry scored three more times in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 9-4. Parker Matzke would steal home in the top of the sixth for the Quarriers and cut the lead to 9-5. The Falcons, however, scored six times in the bottom of the sixth to end the game on the 10-run rule.
Carstensen had two hits, one a double, and an RBI. Johnson and Matzke each had two singles. Grib and Sykes both had a triple with an RBI. Scherff, Lanpher, and Maci Millage all had one hit each. Baker pitched three innings and allowed six earned runs on two hits and seven walks with four strikeouts. Millage pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed nine runs, eight earned, on seven hits and six walks with one strikeout.
