The Dell Rapids high school baseball team held off a rally by Tri-Valley to earn a 15-11 win in Sioux Falls on Sunday, May 3rd.
Dell Rapids got rolling early scoring six times in the top of the first inning. They added three more in the second to build a 9-0 lead. Tri-Valley scored three times in the bottom of the third. Each team would score two times in the fourth inning, and Dell Rapids led 11-5 after four innings of play.
Another run came home for Dell Rapids in the top of the fifth to make the score 12-5. Tri-Valley would rally for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull within one, 12-11. Dell Rapids, however, would score two runs in the sixth and add another in the seventh to pull away 15-11.
Connor Hanson had two hits and two RBIs. Drake Eastman finished with a single and double with an RBI. Carson Maeschen had two singles. Tommy LaVoy ended with a triple and three RBIs. Kenny Swanson had a single. Gauge Bunkers and Jake Heinitz each had an RBI.
Ryan Stubbe pitched three innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Joe Trumbauer threw 2 2/3 innings and allowed a walk with two strikeouts. Eli Gullickson pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed eight runs, six earned, on six hits and two walks.
