Quarrier Softball Finished Third at State A for Second Straight Year

The Dell Rapids Quarrier softball team finished third in the State A tournament for a second year in a row on Saturday, June 1st in Aberdeen.  The Quarriers finished the season with a 14-3 overall record.

Dell Rapids 11, Dakota Valley 0

Katie Kvigne held Dakota Valley to just one hit in five innings while walking two with five strikeouts.  The Quarriers scored three runs in the bottom of the first, one in the second, one in the third, four in the fourth, and finally two in the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Claire Wynja had three hits, including a home run, and six RBIs.  Jaycee Tebay had a home run and two triples with two RBIs.  Lexi Ingalls added two doubles with an RBI.  Kylie Labahn, Kvigne, Rylee Halverson, and Kylee Fiddelke all had a single.

Tea Area 7, Dell Rapids 1

Eventual state champions, Tea Area, scored two runs in the top of the first for an early lead.  Dell Rapids got a run in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 2-1.  The Titans then had three runs in the second, one in the fourth, and one in the sixth.

Fiddelke had two hits.  Wynja finished with a single and an RBI, and Labahn had a single.  Kvigne pitched seven innings and allowed seven runs, three earned, on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 3, Madison 2

The Quarriers scored a game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the win.  Wynja put Dell Rapids on the board with an RBI double in the bottom of the first.  The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth.  Kvigne put Dell Rapids in front again, 2-1, with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.  The Bulldogs tied the game with a home run in the top of the seventh.  Dell Rapids had two singles and Fiddelke reached an error to load the bases.  Lexi Scherff scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch.

Wynja had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Scherff had two hits.  Kvigne had a home run and an RBI.  Ingalls and Makaylah O’Meara both had a single.  Kvigne pitched seven innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits and a walk.
