The Dell Rapids Mudcats have started the 2024 season with four straight wins.
In the first game of the season, the Mudcats defeated the Salem Cubs 4-2 on Sunday, May 12th. Dalton Lehnen tossed five perfect innings to start the game. Carter Gullickson had two hits and scored a run. Lehnen also had an RBI offensively.
The Mudcats traveled to Humboldt for a game against the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks on Thursday, May 16th. Dell Rapids took the win 7-3. Kris Regas was the winning pitcher throwing five innings allowing just one run and one hit with 10 strikeouts. Ty Hoglund had two hits and two RBIs. Lehnen also had two hits and two RBIs.
Dell Rapids earned their third win of the season on Sunday, May 19th by beating Dell Rapids PBR 15-5 in seven innings. PBR grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. The Mudcats tied the game in the bottom of the inning with three runs and then scored eight times in the bottom of the second to take a lead they would not lose. Lehnen earned the victory on the mound allowing five runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. Gullickson had two hits, including a home run, and an RBI. Lehnen had two doubles and an RBI. Regas had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.
The Mudcats won their fourth straight after a 10-6 victory over the defending State B champions, Canova Gang, on Thursday, May 23rd.
