Mudcats Fall to Sioux Falls Squirrels in Extra Innings

The Dell Rapids Mudcats had a 7-6 lead going into the ninth inning, but the Sioux Falls Squirrels tied the game and then scored the game-winning run in the top of the 10th for an 8-7 win on Tuesday, June 20th.

Sioux Falls scored first with a run in the top of the first inning.  The Mudcats responded with four runs in the bottom of the first capped by a three-run home run by Dalton Lehnen.  Dell Rapids added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth.  Ty Hoglund and Kole Zimmerman both had home runs giving the Mudcats a 7-1 lead.

The Squirrels chipped away at the lead throughout the rest of the game.  They got one run in the top of the fifth and three in the top of the sixth to make it a 7-5 score.  Another run came home in the top of the eight.  After a one-out triple in the top of the ninth, the game-tying run was scored on a sacrifice fly to make the score 7-7.  The game-winning hit was a solo home run in the top of the 10th inning.

Hoglund had three hits, including a double and an home run, with one RBI.  Zimmerman and Lehnen both had a home run and three RBIs each.  Austin Henry had two hits.  Landon Ruesink, Mark Abrahamson, and Elijah Story all had one hit each.  Mark Amundson tossed seven innings, giving up five runs and six hits, with three strikeouts. Dusty Hoffman pitched the last two innings, allowing two runs on three hits.
