Despite not playing any games for nine days, the Dell Rapids Quarrier offense smashed their way into the semifinals with a 21-5 win over Lennox in the opening round of the South Dakota State A Softball Tournament on Thursday, June 1st in Aberdeen.
Dell Rapids clubbed 21 hits in the game, including 12 extra base hits of which three were home runs. The Quarriers scored eight times in the top of the first setting the tone offensively in the game. Lennox got one run back in the bottom of the first. Dell Rapids, however, ran 13 more runs across home plate in the top of the second for a 21-1 lead. The Orioles scored four in the bottom of the third before the game ended on the 15-run rule.
Kylee Fiddelke had four hits, including a double and triple, with four RBIs. Claire Wynja had three hits, two doubles and a home run, and four RBIs. Lexi Ingalls finished with three hits, two of them doubles. Katie Scherff had two hits, one a home run, and three RBIs. Kylie Lebahn added two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Liz Price had a single and triple with two RBIs. Rileigh Foster had two doubles with an RBI. Jaycee Tebay added a home run and an RBI. Katie Kvigne had a single and RBI. Lexi Scherff finished with a hit as well.
Kvigne pitched two innings allowing just one run, which was unearned, on one hit with five strikeouts. L. Scherff pitched one inning allowing four earned runs on five hits with a strikeout.
Dell Rapids will play Tea on Friday, June 2nd at 3:00 p.m.
