The Dell Rapids Jr Legion baseball team played five games in a span of five days between Friday, June 19th and Tuesday, June 23rd. They played three games in the I-29 League tournament between Friday and Sunday. They then traveled to Baltic on Monday and Garretson on Tuesday. Dell Rapids finished 2-3 in those five games.
Dell Rapids 6, Canton 2
Four early runs helped Dell Rapids get a win over Canton on Friday, June 19th. They scored four runs right away in the top of the first. Canton picked up a run in the second. The score remained 4-1 until the sixth. Dell Rapids added two insurance runs while holding Canton to just one run.
Caiden Borns had three hits in the game. Owen Bollock had a hit and two RBIs. AJ Brandenburg and Rhett Thoreson each had one hit. Lucas Peppel finished with two RBIs, and Bryson Schroeder also had an RBI.
Flandreau 6, Dell Rapids 1
Dell Rapids had an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first against Flandreau on Saturday, June 20th. Flandreau, however, socred two in the third, two in the fourth, and then single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the win.
Borns collected two hits in the game. Peppel had a single and an RBI. Schroeder had a hit as well. Will Price pitched four innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits and five walks with five strikeouts.
Canton 4, Dell Rapids 1
Canton avenged their loss on Friday with a 4-1 victory on Sunday, June 21st. They scored a run in the bottom of the second and then had a three-run fifth inning for a 4-0 lead. Dell Rapids scored just one time in the top of the seventh inning.
Borns had a single with an RBI. Charlie Bollock and Hayden King each had a double. Brandenburg, Schroeder, and Thoreson all had one single each. C. Bollock pitched four innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits and four walks with two strikeouts.
Baltic 14, Dell Rapids 4
Dell Rapids couldn’t keep pace with Baltic on Monday, June 22nd. Each team scored a run in the opening inning. Baltic then scored five runs in the bottom of the second for a 6-1 lead. Dell Rapids got one run back in the top of the third, but Baltic added three more runs in the bottom of the inning for a 9-2 lead. They got another run in the bottom of the fifth. Dell Rapids plated two runs in the top of the sixth, but Baltic ended the game on the 10-run rule with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
C. Bollock had two hits, one a double. Peppel had a single and an RBI. Brandenburg, Thoreson, and Knox Cuny all had one hit each. Haiden Kaffar had an RBI as well.
Dell Rapids 10, Garretson 2
Dell Rapids ended the string of games with a win in Garretson on Tuesday, June 23rd. After a scoreless first inning, Dell Rapids had a big six-run second inning and then added two more in the third for an 8-0 lead. Garretson got a run in the bottom of the fifth. Dell Rapids scored two more times in the top of the sixth. Garretson’s last run came in the bottom of the seventh.
Borns and C. Bollock each had two hits with an RBI. Brandenburg and Kaffar both had a single with two RBIs. Thoreson had a hit with an RBI. Peppel, O. Bullock, and Schroeder all had one hit each. Chase Stroscheim had two RBIs. Peppel pitched six innings and allowed an unearned run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
