The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team hosted the Beresford Watchdogs in their final regular season match of the year on Tuesday, October 28th. The Quarriers rolled past the Watchdogs in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-14, and 25-18.
Dell Rapids started off the match with an 8-0 run and never looked back in the opening set. They extended the lead to 12-3 and then to 17-6. Both teams scored eight more points each to a 25-14 final score.
The Quarriers started the second set with another run, this time 4-0. They extended the lead to 8-3 and then to 12-6. From that point Dell Rapids went on an 5-0 run to make the score 17-6. The Watchdogs then went on their own 5-0 run to cut the lead back down to six, 17-11. Dell Rapids would have another 5-0 run to make the score 22-11 before taking the win 25-14.
The Watchdogs opened the third set with a 5-0 run. Beresford would extend their lead to 7-1. Dell Rapids chipped away and cut the down to 9-6 and eventually to a 10-10 tie. The Quarriers went on a 6-1 from that point to take a 16-11 lead. That run kept Dell Rapids in front the rest of the set. They led 18-15 and then 22-17 before winning 25-18.
Dell Rapids finished the regular season with a 25-6 record and a #1 seed in the Region 3A Tournament. The Quarriers will have a first-round bye and play in a SoDak 16 Qualifying game at home on Thursday, November 6th. They will play the winner of #4 Madison versus #5 Tri-Valley.
