The Tri-Valley Mustang volleyball team hosted the #2 ranked Dell Rapids Quarriers in a rare Friday night match on October 24th. The Quarriers took the match in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-19.
The opening set went back and forth early. The two teams traded points to ties of 3-3, 6-6, and 9-9. Dell Rapids then went on a 6-2 run to take a 15-11 lead. They remained in front by four points at 18-14. The Mustangs got within two, 19-17, but Dell Rapids finished the set on an 6-1 run for a 25-18 win.
Tri-Valley took the early lead in the second set at 3-2. They continued to lead at 5-3, but the Quarriers rallied to tie the score 6-6. Dell Rapids then went on a 6-2 run to go in front 12-8.. That run kept them in the lead the rest of the set. They continued to hold a six-point lead at 22-16 before finishing with a 25-17 victory.
The third set featured runs by both teams. The Mustangs struck first with an early 3-0 advantage. Still trailing 5-3, Dell Rapids then went on a 5-1 run to go ahead 8-6. Tri-Valley counted with a 7-0 run to regain the lead 13-8. The Quarriers responded with a 9-0 run for a 17-13 lead. The Mustangs got within a point, 18-17, but Dell Rapids was able to hold off the Tri-Valley rally and finish the set with a 7-2 advantage for a 25-19 win.
