Quarriers Take Second at Dak-12 Softball Tournament

Dell Rapids was one out away from winning the Dak-12 Conference Tournament in Sioux Falls on Monday, April 22nd.  But with one out remaining, West Central rallied to win giving Dell Rapids second place in the tournament.

Dell Rapids 19, Tri-Valley 4

Tri-Valley delivered the first blow in the game by scoring four runs in the top of the first inning.  The Quarriers responded in a big way by scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the first.  They scored nine more in the bottom of the third to end the game on the 15-run rule.

Claire Wynja had five hits, including three triples, with eight RBIs.  Lexi Ingalls had three hits, one a home run, and an RBI.  Jaycee Tebay had two hits, one a triple, with two RBIs.  Makaylah O’Meara also had two hits, including a double, with two RBIs.  Katie Kvigne had a home run and three RBIs.  Kylee Fiddelke had a triple and an RBI.  Kvigne pitched three innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 6, Tea 3

The Quarriers rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth sparked by a three-run double by Rylee Halverson.  The four-run sixth put Dell Rapids in front 6-3 to help them advance to the championship game.

Kvigne had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Fiddelke also had two hits, including a double, with an RBI.  Halverson had a double and three RBIs.  Wynja had three hits, two of them doubles.  Ingalls finished with two singles.  O’Meara had a double, and Kylie Lebahn had a single.  Kvigne pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

West Central 15, Dell Rapids 11

The Quarriers and Trojans traded leads throughout the championship game.  Dell Rapids scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the first lead.  West Central scored three in the top of the third for a 3-2 lead.  The Quarriers scored single runs in the third and fourth inning for a 4-3 lead.  The Trojans took the lead back with a two-run top of the fifth.  Dell Rapids responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning.  After five innings of play, Dell Rapids led 7-5.

West Central put up four runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead 9-7.  Dell Rapids responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead 11-9.  The Quarriers seemed to have grabbed momentum after taking the lead back in the bottom of the sixth.  They retired the first two batters of the seventh inning, but the Trojans rallied for six runs on two outs to take the lead for good.

Kvigne had two hits, one a home run, and three RBIs.  Tebay also had two hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Ingalls and Wynja both had two hits and an RBI each.  O’Meara had a home run and three RBIs.  Lebahn finished with a double.  Lexi Scherff and Halverson both ended with a single each.  Kvigne pitched  4 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts.  Paige Trewin pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed 10 earned runs on 11 hits and four walks with four strikeouts.
