Playing in their third straight game in as many days, the Dell Rapids Quarriers suffered their first loss at home on Saturday, April 13th. The West Central Trojans scored early and often early in the game on their way to a 17-7 victory.
The Trojans struck first with a three-run home run in the top of the first inning. Lexi Ingalls led off the bottom of the first with a home run to left field to cut the lead to 3-1. Unfortunately for Dell Rapids, West Central scored six times in the top of the second, three in third, and another in the fourth for a 13-1 lead. After holding the Trojans scoreless in the top of the fifth, the Quarriers rallied to avoid the 10-run rule. Kylee Fiddelke had a three-run home run, and Makaylah O’Meara scored on an error making the score 13-5.
West Central scored two runs in the top of the sixth, but Dell Rapids responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Rylee Halverson had a solo home run, and Ingalls scored on a passed ball for a 15-7 score. The Trojans added two more runs in the top of the seventh.
Fiddelke had two hits, one a home run, and three RBIs. Ingalls and Halverson both had two hits each, each a home run, and each an RBI. Claire Wynja and Kylie Lebahn both had one single each. Katie Kvigne pitched seven innings and allowed 17 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits and 13 walks with 10 strikeouts.
