Dell Rapids scored all four of their runs in the last two innings, which included a walk-off RBI hit by Jaycee Tebay, in a 4-3 win over Madison on Friday, April 12th. The game featured two of the top pitchers in Class A, Katie Kvigne and Amanda Vacanti.
Madison struck first with a run in the top of the first on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs added to their lead when Vacanti hit a home run to start the third inning. The score remained 2-0 until the bottom of the sixth. Dell Rapids was then finally able to break through against Vacanti. Claire Wynja started the sixth inning with a single. Tebay followed with a double to put runners on second and third with no outs. Makaylah O’Meara followed with an RBI fielder’s choice to cut the lead in half, 2-1. Kvigne delivered a one-out double to left field driving home two runs to put Dell Rapids ahead 3-2.
The Bulldogs got their lead-off hitter on to start the top of the seventh. The next batter flew out to left field. During the following at-bat, a passed ball and wild pitch moved the runner to third bases with only one out. Kvigne got a pop-up out to herself for the second out. Vacanti came to the plate with a runner on third and two outs. A passed ball allowed the tying run to score. Vacanti popped out to second to end the inning.
With the scored tied 3-3, Kylee Fiddelke started the Quarrier seventh with a walk. Wynja beat out a ground ball to third base for a single. Fiddelke moved to third on the play, and Wynja advanced to second on a steal. Tebay laced a 1-2 pitch to left field to drive home Fiddelke for the win.
Tebay had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Kvigne had a double and two RBIs. O’Meara finished with a double and an RBI. Wynja added two singles, and Fiddelke had a double. Kvigne pitched seven innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits and five walks with nine strikeouts.
