Wynja and O’Meara Power Dell Rapids to Softball Win

Claire Wynja and Makaylah O’Meara combined to drive in 10 of the 15 runs scored by Dell Rapids in a 15-5 win over the Vermillion Tanagers at home on Thursday, April 11th.

Dell Rapids exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Wynja had two doubles and five RBIs in the first inning alone.  O’Meara had a three-run home run.  Katie Kvigne scored on a wild pitch, and the Quarriers led 9-0.  Vermillion got two runs back in the top of the third, but it could have been more.  The Tanagers had two runs scored and the bases loaded with one.  A line drive right back to Kvigne was caught, and she got the runner out at third for not tagging up on the catch to get out of the inning.

That play sparked some momentum for Dell Rapids.  Kylee Fiddelke had an RBI double, and Wynja drove home another run with an RBI ground out.  Fiddelke scored later in the inning on an error, and O’Meara brought home another run with a single to push the lead to 13-2 after three innings.  Vermillion put together another rally in the top of fourth and scored three times to cut the lead to 13-5.  Fiddelke and Wynja had back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the fifth.  Jayce Tebay followed with a two-run triple to the right field corner to end the game on the 10-run rule, 15-5.

Wynja had three hits, two of them doubles, and six RBIs.  O’Meara had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs.  Fiddelke had three hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Tebay had a triple and two RBIs.  Rylee Halverson had two doubles, and Lexi Scherff finished with a single.  Kvigne pitched five innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits and five walks with six strikeouts.
