The Dell Rapids High School bowling season got started on Thursday, November 2nd.  The team faced Sioux Falls Christian at Empire Bowl in Sioux Falls.  The girls team earned a 29.0 – 21.0 win, but the boys fell by a score of 9.5 – 40.5.

Avery Cole had the highest score of the match for the girls with an 186 game.  Chrissa Sondergaard had the highest three-game total with a 514 series (183, 155, 176).  Cole finished with a 438 series (101, 186, 151).  Aisley Grib had a 362 (134, 111, 117) series.  Adaya Meiners finished with a 324 series (135, 74, 115), and Skylar McKillip had a 260 series (78, 100, 82).

Blake Lewis had the highest game for the boys varsity team with a 204.  Noah Larson had the high series of 499 (150, 187, 162).  Lewis finished with a 472 (204, 121, 147) series.  Oscar Anderson had a 461 series (128, 168, 165).  Knohah Brobjorg had a 415 (121, 110, 184), and Sawyer Hebert had a 408 series (132, 103, 173).

The head-to-head team scores are based on a 50-point system.  The varsity teams are divided into two teams of three.  The teams bowl head-to-head against the opposing team.  Each bowler is bowling head-to-head against the opponent across from them, and teams as a whole are also bowling against each other.  The points break down is as follows:  one point for the bowler winning their individual game, three points for the team winning the game, one point for the individual bowler having the highest individual series, and four points for the team having the highest series.  The Dell Rapids girls team only has five varsity bowlers, so they have to use a “dummy” score for their sixth score, which is the opponents average minus 10 pins.
