The Dell Rapids Quarriers hosted the Garretson Blue Dragons in a key Region 3 match on Tuesday, September 19th. Every match in the Region 3 will be tough with five quality teams in the region. Dell Rapids took the win in four sets by scores of 25-18, 24-26, 25-14, and 27-25.
The first set went back and forth to start and was tied 6-6. Dell Rapids took a slight lead at 8-6, and they continued to lead until Garretson tied the score 14-14. The Quarriers went on a 9-1 run for a 23-15 lead and held for the 25-18 win. The second set started much like the first, and the score was tied 7-7. Dell Rapids went on a 5-0 run for a 12-7 lead, but the Blue Dragons responded with a 6-0 run for a 13-12 lead. The Quarriers went back in front 19-16 and continued to lead until Garretson tied the score 24-24. The Blue Dragons scored the next two points for a 26-24 win.
The Quarriers took the momentum very early in the third set and built an 8-1 lead. That lead grew to 15-6 and 20-12 before Dell Rapids won 25-14. An early 4-4 tie is how the fourth set started. Garretson took a slight lead and held a one-to-two point lead until a 12-12 tie score. The Blue Dragons went on a 5-1 run for a 17-13 lead, but Dell Rapids tied the set 19-19. The score was tied again at 21-21 and 23-23. The Blue Dragons got the first advantage at 24-23, but Dell Rapids earned the next point. Garretson again went ahead 25-24. The Quarriers scored three in a row to take the set and match 27-25.
Elin Schoenhard had 11 kills and two ace serves. Lauryn Kloth also had 11 kills with five blocks. Madelynn Henry added 20 kills and two ace serves. Clara Justice finished with five kills. Kylee Fiddelke had three kills and nine digs. Alaina Wolff had 18 digs and five ace serves. Sophi Randall had 44 set assists and nine digs.
