The Dell Rapids 16U baseball team remained undefeated on the season after two more wins. They defeated the Renner Dukes on Thursday, June 29th and then Baltic on Friday, June 30th.
Dell Rapids 6, Renner Dukes 4
An early lead helped Dell Rapids hold on to a 6-4 win over the Renner Dukes on Thursday. Dell Rapids scored first on a run in the bottom of the first. Renner tied the game with a run in the top of the second. Dell Rapids went ahead for good with two runs in the bottom of the second. They added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and another in the fifth for a 6-1 lead. The Dukes scored three times in the top of the sixth.
Carson Maeschen had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Kenneth Swanson also had three hits, with a double, and an RBI. Cole Ruesink had two hits in the game. Tad Tjaden finished with a hit. Lincoln Fersdahl and Connor Hanson both had an RBI. Quinn Carr pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on one hit and five walks with six strikeouts. Talan Millage pitched 1 2/3 innings and recorded three strikeouts.
Dell Rapids 10, Baltic 2
Dell Rapids turned a 3-1 game into a 10-2 win over Baltic on Friday. Dell Rapids got a run in the top of the first inning and then two more in the third for a 3-0 lead. Baltic cut the lead to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Tjaden started a five-run fifth with an RBI single. Millage, Brandoon Schmidt, and Will Zwach all had RBI singles as well. Millage scored on a balk to make the score 8-1. Two more runs were scored in the sixth on RBI hits by Carr and Tjaden.
Tjaden had three hits and three RBIs. Millage finished with two hits and two RBIs. Schmidt, Zwach, and Carr all had a single and an RBI each. Ruesink had three hits. Swanson, Logan Donovan, and Carson Crosby all had one hit as well. Drake Eastman pitched four innings and allowed one earned run on a hit and four walks with eight strikeouts. Tjaden scored three innings and allowed an unearned run on a hit and a walk with seven strikeouts.
