The Dell Rapids Quarrier softball team took third place in the first ever 2023 South Dakota High School State A Tournament in Aberdeen on Saturday, June 3rd. The Quarriers defeated the Dakota Valley Panthers 7-5 to end their 2023 season with a 13-2 record.
Dell Rapids scored early and often in the game. Rileigh Foster but Dell Rapids on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the second. Claire Wynja and Foster both had RBI singles in the bottom of the third. Lexi Ingalls added an RBI triple, and Kylee Fiddelke had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 5-0.
The Panthers scored two times in the top of the fifth to make the score 5-2. Dell Rapids got those two runs back in the bottom of the sixth. Liz Price scored on a steal of home, and Wynja had an RBI triple to push the lead back to five, 7-2. Dakota Valley rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh with two outs, but the Dell Rapids defense got the final out to stop the rally and secure third place.
Wynja had four hits, including a double and triple, and two RBIs. Foster had two hits, one a home run, and two RBIs. Ingalls finished with a single and triple with an RBI. Price had two hits, one of them a triple. Kylie Lebahn added a single. Fiddelke ended with an RBI. Katie Kvigne pitched seven innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on 10 hits and one walk with one strikeout.
