The Dell Rapids pulled away from the Mt Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney (MVPCS) Padres in the middles innings for a 9-3 win at home on Thursday, May 4th.
The Padres broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second with a run. Dell Rapids took the lead in the bottom of the inning with two runs. MVPCS tied the game with another run in the top of the third. Jack Henry put Dell Rapids back in front in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run. Drake Eastman added an RBI single later in the inning for a 5-2 lead. Henry extended the lead to 8-2 for Dell Rapids after a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. The Padres got one more run in the top of the fifth. Mason Stubbe got a steal of home in the bottom of the sixth for the final run for Dell Rapids.
Henry had two home runs and five RBIs in the game. Eastman finished with a single and an RBI. Stubbe had three hits, one of them a double. Will Jaton had two singles. Joe Rechtenbaugh added one hit. D. Eastman pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Tad Tjaden pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed one hit with one strikeout.
