Dell Rapids Softball Falls to Trojans in Tough Battle

The game between two of the three undefeated teams in Class A softball lived up to the hype.  The Dell Rapids Quarriers traveled to Hartford to play the West Central Trojans.  Both teams had momentum at different times of the game, and it was the Trojans that took the win 5-4.

West Central grabbed the momentum early in the game.  The Trojans got one run in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead.  With two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, West Central got a well-time double that cleared the bases and extended the lead to 4-0.  One more run came home in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch, and after three innings of play, the Trojans led 5-0.

Dell Rapids got a big spark off the bat of Jaycee Tebay.  Claire Wynja drew a one-out walk in the top of the fourth inning.  Tebay then drilled a two-run home run to left center field to get the Quarriers on the board.  The Quarriers took advantage of an error and a couple of wild pitches in the top of the fifth.  Makaylah O’Meara scored on a wild pitch.  Wynja followed with an RBI sacrifice bunt to score Kylee Fiddelke cutting the lead to 5-4.  Unfortunately for Dell Rapids, they did not get a base runner in the final two innings of the game.

Tebay finished with a home run and two RBIs.  Kylie Lebahn and Katie Kvigne both had a single.  Wynja ended with an RBI.  Kvigne pitched six innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits and one walk with one strikeout.
