Quarrier Girls Finish Regular Season with Win

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team finished their 2018-2019 regular season with a road win at Garretson on Thursday, February 21st.  The Quarriers beat the Blue Dragons 75-52 to secure the #3 seed in the Region 3A tournament.

The Blue Dragons held an early 3-0 lead, but Dell Rapids went on a 9-3 run and never trailed the remainder of the game.  The Quarriers built a six-point lead by the end of the first quarter at 18-12.  The two teams traded scores throughout much of the second quarter.  The Quarriers was able to maintain about a five-point lead most of the quarter and lead 38-30 at halftime.

Garretson cut the lead to four points at 44-40 with 4:40 to play in the third quarter, but Dell Rapids held the Blue Dragons scoreless the remainder of the quarter while on a 12-0 run to push the lead to 56-40 by quarter’s end.  The Quarriers then outscored the Blue Dragons 19-12 in the final quarter for the win.

Three players finished in double figures.  Aspen Hansen led the way with 19 points.  Emma Paul and Jayda Knuppe both finished with 18 points each.  Garretson was led by Lizzie Olson with 16 points.

Dell Rapids finishes the regular season with a 13-7 record.  The Quarriers will host the #6 seeded Tri-Valley Mustangs in the opening round of the Region 3A tournament on Monday, February 25th.  Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m. and the game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Boys Get Back on Track on Senior Night

The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys basketball team got back into the win column on senior night against the Canton C-Hawks on Tuesday, February 19th.  The Quarriers defeated the C-Hawks 76-42.  The win snapped a three-game skid for Dell Rapids.

Nick Boever started the game with six straight points on two made three-point shots, and the Quarriers never trailed in the game.  Dell Rapids built a 15-10 lead after the first quarter, but extended the lead to 21 points by halftime at 37-16.  The Quarriers went on to outscore Canton 39-26 in the second half for the win.

Dell Rapids had four players finish in double figures.  Drew Van Regenmorter finished with 13 points.  Connor Rentz had 12 points and eight rebounds.  Coby Maeschen had 12 points.  Jacob Rechtenbaugh had 10 points and nine rebounds.  Logan Heim finished with 12 rebounds and four assists.

Four senior also played in their final home game of their careers.  The four seniors for the 2018-2019 season are Nick Boever, Matthew Benda, Jacob Rechtenbaugh, and Logan Heim.

Dell Rapids (10-7) will hit the road on Thursday, February 21st.  Dell Rapids will travel to Garretson to play the Blue Dragons in a girls and boys double-header.  Big Sioux Media will have a link to the Garretson High School stream.

Quarrier Girls Beat Canton on Senior Night

In the final regular season home game of the 2018-2019 season, the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team defeated the Canton C-Hawks 65-34 on Tuesday, February 19th.  It was the seventh win in eight games for Dell Rapids.

Dell Rapids controlled the game from the early stages.  The Quarriers led 18-11 after the first quarter, but held the C-Hawks to just nine second quarter points while building a 43-20 halftime lead.  Canton was only able to score two points against the Quarrier defense in the third quarter, and Dell Rapids led 58-22 heading into the final quarter.  The Quarriers cruised to the victory.

Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 55% (22-40) from the field, 33% (4-12) from three-point area, and 63% (17-27) from the free-throw line.  The Quarriers had a total of 35 team rebounds, 13 team assists, and 11 team steals.

Three people finished in double figures for Dell Rapids.  Jayda Knuppe had 31 points and 11 rebounds.  Emma Paul finished with 13 points, three rebounds, three steals, and three assists.  Aspen Hansen added 11 points, four assists, three rebounds, and two steals.  Ravyn Hoffman had five points, five rebounds, and four assists.  Jenae Schoeberl grabbed eight rebounds.

Four seniors played their final home game of their career on Tuesday.  The 2018-2019 seniors are Ravyn Hoffman, Emma Paul, Jenae Schoeberl, and Jayda Knuppe.

The Quarriers (12-7) will play their final regular season game on the road at Garretson against the Blue Dragons on Thursday, February 21st.  Big Sioux Media will have a link to the Garretson High School video stream.

Cardinal Girls Season Ends with 1-1 Region 4B Tourney

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls basketball team had their 2018-2019 season come to an end after going 1-1 in the Region 4B Tournament.  The Cardinals hosted the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders on Monday, February 18th in the opening round.  St Mary then played the Hanson Beaverettes in Alexandria on Tuesday, February 19th.

The Cardinals earned an opening round win over the Raiders by a score of 61-22 on Monday.  St Mary was in complete control of the game from the start.  The Cardinals led 17-4 after the first quarter of play.  St Mary then pushed the lead to 31-12 by halftime.  St Mary held the Raiders to just 10 second-half points while scoring 30 for the win.

Three players finished in double figures.  Ella Heinitz had 15 points and three steals.  Maddie Schwebach finished with 14 points, eight steals, and five rebounds.  Courtney Brown added 10 points and three rebounds.  Tana Harrington had eight points, and Clare Klein had seven points and nine rebounds.  Oldham-Ramona/Rutland was led by Khloe Tieman with 12 points.

St Mary then made the trip to Alexandria to play the Hanson Beaverettes on Tuesday in the next round of the Region 4B tournament.  The #2 seeded Beavers ended the Cardinals season with a 77-57 win.

The Cardinals trailed by just one point at the end of the first quarter at 17-16, but the Beaverettes pushed the lead to 14 points by halftime at 39-25.  Hanson continued to increase their lead throughout the second half.  They extended the lead to 17 points by the end of the third quarter at 60-43, and then ended the game with the 20-point victory.

Two players finished in double figures for St Mary.  Heinitz had 18 points in the game.  Ella Griffin finished with 11 points.  Harrington led the team in rebounds with six.  Hanson was led by Megan Guericke with 28 points.

St Mary’s season ends with an overall record of 11-10.  Four seniors had their careers come to an end for St Mary.  They were Carly Maxwell, Cassie Mullaney, Maddie Schwebach, and Clare Klein.

St Mary Boys Fall in Arlington

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys basketball team had their seven-game win streak come to an end on Monday afternoon in Arlington.  Arlington won the battle of the Cardinal in a make-up game by a score of 64-50 on February 18th.

Arlington had just a nine point lead at halftime at 37-28.  Arlington, however, would outscore St Mary 27-22 in the second half to earn the 14-point victory in the game.

Connor Libis led St Mary with 25 points in the game.  Connar Kangas had 12 points.  Three players finished in double figures for Arlington.  Devon Heuer had 18 points, Revor Larsen had 16 points, and Trey Ramstad had 13 points.

St Mary (15-4) will close out the regular season on Friday, February 22nd in their final home game of the year against Howard.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Wrestling Sends Seven to State, Has Region Champ

NewQuarrierLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier wrestling program will be sending seven wrestlers to state next weekend after they finished in the top four of their respective weight classes at the Region 1A tournament on Saturday, February 16th.  Dell Rapids finished sixth as a team with a total of 78.5 points.  Madison won the Region 1A team title with 158.5 points.  Brookings was second with 146.0 points, and Watertown placed third with 104.5 points.

Jacob Vogel won the 113-pound weight class and will take a 37-5 record into the state tournament.  Gage Carr (29-12) had a third place finish.  Andrew Weiland (31-8), Canyon Lowman (30-16), Max Lamer (25-15), Sam Cavigielli (8-16), and Mitchell Klinkenborg (12-11) all had fourth place finished in their respective weight classes.

The 2019 South Dakota State A Wrestling Tournament will be held on Friday, February 22nd and Saturday, February 23rd at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.

Streak Reaches Seven for Cardinal Boys

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys basketball team won a pair of basketball games on Friday, February 15th and Saturday, February 16th to extend their current winning streak to a season-high seven games.  The Cardinals defeated the Baltic Bulldogs on Friday and then beat the Elkton-Lake Benton Elks on Saturday.

After six days since their last game and a couple of postponements, St Mary was able to get back to the court against the Baltic Bulldogs on Friday at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.  The Cardinals beat the Bulldogs 65-48.

The Cardinals led the entire game.  St Mary had an 18-12 lead after the first quarter of play and extended the lead to 10 points at 34-24 by halftime.  St Mary continued to pull farther away throughout the second half for the victory.

Connor Libis had a game-high 30 points, and Weston Geraets added nine points for St Mary.  Baltic was led by Brodee Teveldal with 14 points and Sam Muston with 10 points.

St Mary then traveled to Elkton Saturday afternoon for a makeup game with the Elkton-Lake Benton Elks.  The Cardinals avenged an earlier loss to the Elks with a 68-59 victory.

The Cardinals built an eight point lead after the first quarter of play at 21-13.  St Mary was able to keep that cushion throughout the second quarter and led 37-28 at halftime.  The third quarter proved to be difficult offensively for both teams.  The Elks outscored St Mary 9-8 to cut the lead to 45-37.  The offense picked up in the fourth quarter when the teams combined for 45 total points.  St Mary outscored the Elks 23-22 to seal the victory.

Three Cardinals finished the game in double figures.  Libis had 32 points.  Connar Kangas had 13 points, and Colin Winberg finished with 11 points.  Matthew Nibbe had 25 points, and Grant DeRuyter had 24 points for Elkton-Lake Benton.

St Mary (15-3) will travel to Arlington on Monday afternoon for a makeup game.  The game will tip-off at 4:30 p.m. and will be a varsity only game.

Cardinal Girls Regular Season Ends with Weekend Split

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls basketball team had their regular season come to an end after a couple of make-up games over the weekend.  The Cardinals traveled to Elkton-Lake Benton on Friday, February 15th, and then made the trip north to Arlington on Saturday, February 16th.

St Mary earned their 10th win of the season on Friday over the Elks with a 61-35 victory.  The Cardinals led at the end of every quarter break and outscored Elkton-Lake Benton in each quarter for the win.  St Mary had a seven point lead after the first quarter at 17-10, and then pushed that lead to 13 points by halftime at 33-20.  The third quarter put the game out of reach for the Cardinals as they outscored the Elks 17-9 for a 50-29 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  St Mary then outscored the Elks 11-6 in the final quarter.

Ella Heinitz finished the game with 23 points.  Ella Griffin had nine points.  Clare Klein and Addison Gilbert both had eight points.  Maddie Schwebach and Carly Maxwell both finished with four points each.  Jesse Busselman led Elkton-Lake Benton with 13 points.

St Mary then had to travel to Arlington on Saturday for a game against the Cardinals.  Arlington took the game 62-46.  The win by Arlington snapped a six-game winning streak for St Mary.  No stats were provided for the game.

The Cardinals finished the regular season with a winning record at 10-9 and a seventh seed in the Region 4B playoffs.  St Mary will host the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders on Monday, February 18th in the opening round of the Region 4B playoffs.  The seniors will also be recognized prior to the game.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Boys Can’t Erase Early Deficit

The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys got into an early hole and fell to the Lennox Orioles on Friday, February 15th at Lennox High School.  The Orioles defeated the Quarriers 65-51.

Leading 5-4 early in the game, Drew Van Regenmorter made a three-point shot with just under three minutes to play in the first quarter to give Dell Rapids an 8-4 lead.  Lennox would then go on an 11-0 run to end the quarter with a 15-8 lead.  Lennox built a double digit lead in the second quarter and led by 15 at 33-18 by halftime.

The Orioles pushed the lead to 20 points at 40-20 with 6:30 to play in the third quarter.  Dell Rapids then held Lennox to just four free throws over the next five minutes and fifteen seconds as they cut the lead to single digits at 44-35 with 1:15 to play in the third quarter.  The Orioles held a 48-40 lead heading into the final quarter.  Logan Heim made a shot from the block with 7:20 to play in the game to keep the Lennox lead at eight points at 50-42.  The Quarriers held Lennox scoreless over the next two minutes and had three offensive possessions to try to cut into the eight-point deficit, but couldn’t get the ball to fall through the hoop.  The Orioles then went on an 8-2 run to lead 58-44 with 3:30 to play.  That was enough for the Orioles to hold for the victory.

Connor Rentz led the Quarriers with 15 points.  Colin Rentz added 11 points.  Lennox was led by Will Daugherty with 19 points and Josh Arlt with 17 points.

Dell Rapids (9-7) will host Canton on Tuesday, February 19th as part of a girls and boys double-header.  It will also be senior night.  Both games can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Girls Roll to Season-High Sixth Straight

Valentine’s Day was oh so sweet for the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team.  Dell Rapids continued their winning streak with a 58-43 win over the Madison Bulldogs at home.  The win moves the Quarrier win streak to six straight games.

Dell Rapids was able to get some separation from Madison late in the first quarter.  The Quarriers led 11-10 with just one minute to play, but they closed out the quarter on a 6-0 run for a 17-10 lead.  Dell Rapids then scored the first three points of the second quarter for a 20-10 lead.  Madison closed the gap to two points at 24-22 with 3:00 to go in the half, but Dell Rapids answered with the final eight points of the second quarter for a 32-22 halftime lead.

The run continued into the third quarter.  Dell Rapids held Madison scoreless until the 4:45 mark while pushing the lead to 15 points at 37-22.  The Quarriers were in full control of the game at this point.  Dell Rapids led 46-30 after three quarters and closed out the game for the 15-point win.

Jayda Knuppe finished with a double-double scoring 20 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.  Emma Paul added 12 points with six rebounds.  Janae Schoeberl had eight points and 11 rebounds.  Ravyn Hoffman finished with six points and six assists.  Aspen Hansen had five points, six rebounds, and five assists, and Zoey Hilmoe had five points.  Madison was led by Kendra Leighton with 18 points.

Dell Rapids (11-6) will travel to Aberdeen to play the Aberdeen Roncalli Cavaliers on Saturday, February 16th.
