Tri-Valley Baseball Falls to Dell Rapids

Dell Rapids scored 12 times in the fifth inning to defeat Tri-Valley 18-4 on Tuesday, May 17th at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls.

Dell Rapids scored four times in the top of the first inning to take the early lead.  Tri-Valley got a run back in the bottom of the second inning.  Alex Wingen had an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.  Dell Rapids scored two more times in the top of the third.  Cole Focken had an RBI double in the bottom of the inning to make the score 6-2.  Tri-Valley pulled within two, 6-4, in the bottom of the fourth.  Lawson Loiseau had an RBI single, and Carter Sorenson had an RBI sacrifice fly.  Dell Rapids, however, scored 12 times in the fifth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Focken had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Wingen and Loiseau each had a single and an RBI.  Noah Haynes and Connor Christensen each had a single.  Sorenson had an RBI.  Tyler Groenewold pitched four innings allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on 10 hits and three walks with six strikeouts.  Sorenson pitched an inning and allowed eight runs, three earned, on four hits and three walks and a strikeout.

Boechler Hits Three Triples, Drives in Six in Dell Rapids Win

Aiden Boechler tore up the base paths for Dell Rapids on Tuesday, May 17th.  Boechler hit three triples in the game and drove home six runs in an 18-4 win over Tri-Valley at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls.

Dell Rapids belted 14 hits.  Will Jaton had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  CJ Smith had three singles and an RBI.  Landon Ruesink had two hits and two RBIs.  Dylan Mathis also had two hits.  Brayden Pankonen and Sutton Williams both finished with a hit and an RBI.  Braden Fersdahl had an RBI.

Dell Rapids scored four runs in the top of the first, two in the third, and 12 in the fifth inning.  Tri-Valley got one run in the second, one in the third, and two in the fourth.  The game ended on the 10-run rule after five innings.

Pankonen pitched all five innings allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

West Central Baseball Wins Two More, Runs Streak to Eight

The West Central High School club baseball team won two more games on Tuesday, May 17th.  The two wins pushed their winning streak to eight games.  The last loss came against Dell Rapids on April 24th.

West Central 7, Flandreau/Chester 1

Two runs in the bottom of the first inning was enough, but West Central took a 7-1 win over Flandreau/Chester at home.

Jack Linneman got the scoring going with a two-run single in the first inning.  Grafton Stroup scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third for a 3-0 lead.  Flandreau/Chester scored their lone run in the top of the fourth.  Stroup had an RBI single, and Caden Alfson had an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Stroup added another RBI hit in the sixth inning.

Stroup had three hits and two RBIs.  Alfson had a double and an RBI.  Linneman finished with a hit and an RBI.  Derek Renken had a single, and Zach Madsen had an RBI.  Andrew Zimmer pitched all seven innings allowing an earned run on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.

West Central 6, Garretson 1

Braden Herr threw a no-hitter while striking out 10 batters in a 6-1 win for West Central.  The run scored by Garretson came in the top of the first inning and was unearned due to an error.

West Central took the lead in the bottom of the second inning.  Logan Maras reached on an error that scored Camden McDonald.  Gavin Koch followed that with an RBI single.  Alfson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, and Madsen had an RBI sacrifice fly to make the score 4-1.  Koch had an RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, and Duece Sherrard followed with an RBI single.

Sherrard had three hits and an RBI.  Koch had two hits and two RBIs.  McDonald finished with a double.  Stroup, Brodie Herr, Ben Sebert, and Maras all had hits.  Aflson and Madsen each had an RBI.

Mustang Track Competes at Dak-12 Meet, Boys Finish 4th

The Tri-Valley Mustang track team competed in the Dak-12 conference meet on Monday, May 16th.  The boys team finished fourth with 72 points.  The girls team was 11th on the day.

The 4x100m relay team of Emry Jones, Maddie Wenzel, Paige Jewett, and Ella Richardson finished sixth.  Brie Peters had a seventh place finish in the 1600m run.  Ava Pearson was seventh in the shot put.

Michael Beyer captured the conference title in the 110m hurdles.  Beyer also finished second in teh 300m hurdles.  Connor Christensen was second in the shot put.  The 4x100m relay team of Jaden Siemonsma, Dustin Sees, Carter Sorenson, and Beyer also had a second place finish.  Sorenson was third in the long jump, and Sees placed third in the triple jump.  The 4x200m relay team of Brody Dybvig, Eli McFarland, Sorenson, and Beyer was also third.

Both West Central Track Teams Finish Third at Dak-12 Meet

Both the girls and boys West Central Trojan track teams placed third at the Dak-12 Conference meet held on Monday, May 16th.  The girls team finished with 106 points, while the boys team finished with 79.5 points.

The girls team had four conference champions.  Lily Sidel won the long jump.  Molli Thornton won the triple jump.  The 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams of Sidel, Sadie Berg, Thornton, and Emma Goehring took first place in both events.  Sidel also had a second place finish in the 100m dash.  Berg finished second in the 200m dash and 400m dash.  Thornton was third in the 200m dash.  Goehring was third in the 100m dash, and the 4x400m relay team of Alexa Borns, Baylee Poss, Peyton Meadors, and Melissa Anderson finished third.

Gunnar Cuka was the conference champion in the long jump.  Benjamin Strunk was second in the 3200m run.  The 4x200m relay team of Carter Schmeichel, Mason Berens, Wyatt Nielsen, and Layton Johnson placed second.  The 4x400m relay team of Nielsen, Schmeichel, Jude Jarding, and Johnson also placed second.  Johnson was third in the 100m dash.

Boys 9th, Girls 10th for Quarrier Track at Dak-12 Meet

The Dell Rapids Quarrier track teams participated in the Dak-12 Conference meet on Monday, May 16th.  The boys team finished ninth with a total of 34 points.  The girls team finished 10th with 33 points.

Kylee Fiddelke had a third place finish in the 400m dash.  Rileigh Foster placed third in the javelin.  The 4x400m relay team of Elly Olson, Clara Justice, Madysen VanOverbeke, and Fiddelke had a fourth place finish.  The sprint medley relay team of Fiddelke, Sophia Godwin, Kennedy Krull, and Elizabeth Price finished fifth.

Gunnar Chamley took the conference title in the discus.  Jade Anstine placed fourth in the 200m dash and fifth in the 100m dash.  The 4x200m relay team of Ian Mason, Owen Nelson, Chase Jones, and Anstine also had a fifth place finish.

Early Runs Lead to West Central Win over MVPCS

Playing in their second game of the evening, West Central scored six runs in the first three innings which was enough to defeat the Mt Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney (MVPCS) Padres on Monday, May 16th.

Zach Madsen drove home the first run in the bottom of the first inning with a single to right field.  The Trojans scored two more runs in the bottom of the second on a two-run double by Caden Alfson. 

MVPCS cut the lead to 3-2 after scoring two times in the top of the third inning, but West Central’s offense scored three times in the bottom of the inning.  Ben Sebert brought home a run with a single.  Grafton Stroup then added a two-run double to push the lead to 6-2.  Those were the last runs scored in the game.

Stroup had four hits, including a double, and two RBIs.  Alfson finished with two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Madsen and Sebert both had singles with an RBI.  Brodie Herr pitched 4 1/3 innings without allowing a hit while striking out four to earn the win.  Madsen pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

West Central Gets Walk-off Win over Tri-Valley

West Central scored three runs in the final two innings to get a come-from-behind walk-off win over Tri-Valley on Monday, May 16th in Humboldt.

Neither team scored through the first three innings of play.  Tri-Valley scored both of their runs in the top of the fourth inning.  With two outs in the inning, Carter Sorenson hit a two-run double scoring Nathan Madison and Connor Christensen.

West Central cut the lead in half in the bottom of the sixth inning when Zach Madsen hit an RBI double scoring Grafton Stroup.  The score remained 2-1 heading into the seventh inning.  After Tri-Valley failed to add any more runs in their half of the seventh, West Central put together a one-out rally.  Ben Sebert reached on an error.  Gavin Koch followed with a single.  Camden McDonald hit a double that scored Sebert to tie the game.  Duece Sherrard drove home Koch with a single to center field to win the game.

Sorenson had two hits, one a double, with two RBIs for Tri-Valley.  Riley Carlson had two singles.  Christensen and Madison also each had a single in the game.  Kaden Egger pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up three runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out six.

For the West Central Trojans, McDonald had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Sherrard also had two hits and an RBI.  Madsen had a double and an RBI.  Jack Linneman and Koch each had a single as well.

Dell Rapids Belts Three Home Runs in Win over Garretson

Dell Rapids (10-2) belted three home runs, two of them were by Landon Ruesink, in a 12-2 win over Garretson on Monday, May 16th at Rickeman Field.  The win was the fourth in a row for Dell Rapids.

Garretson did have a short-lived lead in the game.  They scored one run in the top of the first, but Treyse Eastman drove home two runs for Dell Rapids on a single for a 2-1 lead.  Neither team scored in the second inning, but Dell Rapids scored in every inning the rest of the game.

Will Jaton had an RBI single in the third inning.  Ruesink hit his first home run of the game, a two-run shot to left field, in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Dylan Mathis followed with a solo home run two batters later to make the score 6-1.  Ruesink added another two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning for an 8-1 lead.

Garretson got their second run in the top of the sixth inning.  Aiden Boechler had an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Jaton drove home two more runs with a single, and Sutton Williams drove home the game-ending run on a single for the 12-2 victory in six innings.

Ruesink had three hits, two of them home runs, and four RBIs.  Mathis had two his, one a home run, and an RBI.  Boechler finished with three hits, including a double, and an RBI.  Jaton had two hits and three RBIs.  Williams had two hits, one of them a triple, and an RBI.  Eastman finished with a single and two RBIs.  CJ Smith also had a hit.  Joe Rechtenbaugh pitched all six innings allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.

Mudcats Win 2022 Cornbelt League Opener

The Dell Rapids Mudcats won their 2022 Cornbelt League season opener on Sunday, May 15th at Rickeman Field.  The Mudcats held off a rally by the Colman A’s for a 7-5 victory.

The Mudcats got on the board early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Mark Abrahamson had an RBI double and Dalton Lehnen followed with an RBI single.  Kris Regas added to the Mudcat lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning.

Colman got a run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Mudcats answered with two more runs in their half of the fourth.  Grant Olson had an RBI single, and Trevor Freudenthal scored on a wild pitch.  Both teams scored two runs in the fifth inning.  Josh Roemen and Lehnen each had RBI doubles in the inning, and the Mudcats led 7-3.  Colman scored two more times in the top of the eighth inning, but couldn’t get any rally started in the ninth.

Lehnen had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs.  Ty Hoglund had three singles.  Regas had a home run and an RBI.  Roemen and Abrahamson each had a double and an RBI.  Olson finished with a single and an RBI.  Freudenthal also had a hit. Lehnen pitched three innings allowing just one hit while striking out six to earn the win.  Dalton Allen pitched three innings and allowed three runs on three hits with five strikeouts.  John Speath pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing two runs on three hits with a strikeout.  Regas pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out four batters.
