Trojan Football Cruises to Win in Season Opener

The West Central Trojans opened their 2022 football season in a big way at home on Saturday, August 27th.  The Trojans hosted the Custer Wildcats and cruised to a 43-0 victory.

West Central scored 36 of their 43 points in the first quarter.  Aiden Bartmann got the first score on a 29-yard run.  Justin Zirpel had a 15-yard run to put the Trojans ahead 14-0 after the extra points.

The defense then took a turn to put points on the board.  Carson Berens blocked a punt from the end zone, and Crew Heler recovered the ball for a touchdown to make the score 21-0.  The defense scored again on the next drive when the defensive line got a tackle in the end zone for a safety and a 23-0 lead.

Caden Hall then scored on the very next play.  After the safety, the Wildcats had to kick the ball back to the Trojans, and Hall returned the kick 73 yards for a touchdown.  The final score in the first quarter came on a 53-yard touchdown run by Zirpel.  The extra point this time was no good, and West Central led 36-0.

The final score of the game came in the second quarter.  Case VanderWoude connected with Xzavian Ferris on a 20-yard touchdown pass for a 43-0 score.

The Trojans (1-0) will host Sioux Falls Christian on Friday, September 2nd.
