Trojan Girls Rally for Win over Vermillion

The West Central Trojan girls basketball team was able to overcome a double-digit deficit in the first half and rallied for a 52-49 win over the Vermillion Tanagers at home on Tuesday, December 16th.

The Tanagers opened the game with an 8-0 and ended the first quarter with a 10-2 lead.  They were able to push the lead to 13 points, 25-12, late in the second quarter.  West Central went on a 5-0 run to end the half to make the score 25-17.  That run sparked momentum for the Trojans.

West Central got hot in the second half.  They rallied for 20 points in the third quarter alone and were able to take the lead.  The Trojans led 37-35 going into the fourth quarter.  They were able to keep the Tanagers at bay the entire fourth quarter and outscored them 15-14 for a 52-49 win.

The Trojans shot 33% (18-54) from the field, 27% (7-26) from three-point area, and 64% (9-14) from the free-throw line.  Vermillion finished the game shooting 34% (17-50) overall, 29% (8-28) on three-point shots, and 44% (7-16) from the free-throw line.

Kacey Jaton scorched the nets with 31 points and also had seven rebounds.  Mackenzie Skonhovd had 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists.  Abbi Thornton added six points, five rebounds, and four blocked shots.
