West Central Baseball Rallies Past Hanson/Bridgewater-Emery

The West Central high school baseball team rallied late in the game for a 12-6 home win over Hanson/Bridgewater-Emery (HBE) on Friday, April 24th.

Each team put a run on the board in the first inning.  The second inning was scoreless, but HBE scored four times in the top of the third for a 5-1 lead.  They would add another run in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 6-1.

West Central would put together a big rally in the bottom of the fifth.  Nick Lorang had an RBI sacrifice fly out.  JT Steckey and Carson Johnson followed with back-to-back RBI singles to make the score 6-4.  Hayden Whiting tied the game with a two-run single.  CJ Den Boer put West Central ahead, 8-6, wiith a two run single.  The West Central rally continued into the bottom of the sixth.  Gunnar Alfson scored on a wild pitch for a 9-6 score.  Steckley also scored on a wild pitch, and Taten Van Overbeke drove home two with a single to extend the lead to 12-6.

Den Boer had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs.  Van Overbeke finished with two hits and two RBIs.  Whiting added a single and two RBIs.  Steckley and Johnson each had a single and an RBI.  Eli Koehn also had a hit.  Alfson and Lorang each had an RBI.

Ashton Gebhard pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on two hits and five walks with two strikeouts.  Johnson tossed 2 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Den Boer also pitched two innings walking two and striking out two.
