The West Central 16U baseball team won three of their last four baseball games. They earned a win over Madison Maroon on Thursday, July 18th. They split two games on Saturday, July 20th, beating Hamlin but falling to Parkston. West Central then got a win over Baltic on Monday, July 22nd.
West Central 13, Madison Maroon 5
In their game on Thursday, West Central used a six-run inning to pull away from Madison for the win. Madison took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first. West Central grabbed the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first and then went ahead 4-1 with two more in the second. Each team scored two runs in the third inning for a 6-3 score. After Madison cut the lead to 6-4 with a run in the top of the fourth, West Central scored six times in the bottom of the inning. Both teams got a run in the fifth.
Alex Siemonsma had three hits and four RBIs. Zach Lorang added two doubles and an RBI. CJ DenBoer also had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Ashton Gebhard had two hits, one a double. Keaton Vessells had a single and an RBI. Nick Lorang, Langdon Klinkhammer, and Taten VanOverbeke all had one hit each. Hayes Cain finished with two RBIs.
West Central 10, Hamlin 0
Three pitchers combined to hold Hamlin to no hits with eight strikeouts in a 10-0 victory. Cain pitched an inning and had one strikeout. VanOverbeke pitched an inning and struck out three batters. Klinkhammer threw two innings and had four strikeouts.
Offensively West Central scored five runs in the top of the first, one in the second, and four more in the fourth. Gebhard had two singles and two RBIs. DenBoer had two doubles with an RBI. Vessells added a single and two RBIs. Jacob Mallinger had a single and an RBI. Z. Lorang and VanOverbeke each had one hit.
Parkston 7, West Central 2
Parkston scored four runs in the first two innings to take an early 4-0 lead. West Central got a single run in the fourth and sixth innings to make the score 4-2. Parkston, however, added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the 7-2 win.
N. Lorang had the only two hits in the game for West Central. VanOverbeke had an RBI.
West Central 11, Baltic 1
Two big innings early in the game helped West Central to an 11-1 win over Baltic on Monday. Baltic scored a run in the top of the first inning, but it was all West Central after that. They scored five runs in the bottom of the first and four more in the second for a 9-1 lead. Two more runs were scored in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.
N. Lorang finished with two hits and two RBIs. Siemonsma had a single and two RBIs. Klinkhammer and Gebhard each had a hit and an RBI. Cain, JT Steckley, and Jerrico Klein all had one hit each. DenBoer pitched two innings allowing a hit and walk with five strikeouts. Siemonsma pitched two innings and allowed an earned run on three hits with three strikeouts. Vessells threw one inning allowing a hit with three strikeouts.
