West Central Baseball Falls in Season Opener

The West Central high school baseball opened their 2024 season at home against Sioux Falls Christian on Wednesday, April 10th.  Sioux Falls Christian spoiled the home opener with a 13-6 win over West Central.

After a scoreless tie through two innings of play, Sioux Falls Christian scored twice in the top of the third.  They added another run in the top of the fourth for a 3-0 lead.  The score remained 3-0 until the top of the sixth.  Sioux Falls Christian scored four runs for a 7-0 advantage.

Caden Alfson put West Central on the board with a home run in the bottom of the sixth.  Sioux Falls Christian had a big six-run seventh inning to go ahead 13-1.  West Central’s offense got five runs in the bottom of the inning.  Rayce Whiting drew a bases-loaded walk, Brodie Herr had an RBI sacrifice fly, and Alfson hit his second home run of the game bringing home three runs.

Alfson had two home runs and four RBIs.  Will Nester and Anthony Lanham each had a single.  Whiting and Herr both had one RBI.  Herr took the loss on the mound pitching three innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Lanham also pitched three innings and allowed five runs, two earned, on eight hits and a walk with one strikeout.
