The West Central Trojan football team finished as the 11A Runner-up to end the 2023 season. The Trojans fell to Dell Rapids for the second year in a row on Friday, November 10th. The Quarriers defeated West Central 42-6.
Dell Rapids took the opening kickoff and scored on their first drive of the game on a three-yard run with 9:44 to go. The Quarriers then two touchdowns in a matter of seconds before the end of the first quarter. After a Trojan punt, Dell Rapids scored with 1:17 to go. West Central then fumbled on their next drive, and Dell Rapids added a 41-yard touchdown pass on the next play. The Quarriers led 20-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Quarrier offense kept rolling in the second and third quarters. Dell Rapids had a seven-yard touchdown pass with 5:10 to go in the second quarter, and then added a seven-yard touchdown pass in the closing seconds of the first half. They led 34-0 at halftime. The quarriers added a 35-yard touchdown pass with 9:19 to play in the third quarter.
West Central got their lone touchdown in the first five seconds of the fourth quarter. Chet Carda had a one-yard touchdown run.
The Trojans finished with 200 yards of total offense, 184 rushing yards and 16 passing yards. Dell Rapids had 364 yards of offense, 220 rushing yards and 144 passing yards.
Caden Alfson finished 2-5 passing for 16 yards and an interception. Layton Johnson had both catches. Jesse Jost finished with seven carries for 47 yards. Carda had 11 carries for 42 yards and a touchdown. Aiden Bartmann had eight carries 37 yards, and Johnson had four rushes for 33 yards.
Chet Carda also finished with 16 tackles in the game. Karsen Wilde had eight takcles. Chandler Carda addded five tackles. Cyrus Maras, Keaton Vessells, Evan Jaton, and Jost all had three tackles each.
The Trojans finished the 2023 season with an overall record of 10-2.
