A safety with under two minutes to play in the game secured a 32-28 victory for the West Central Trojans over the Canton C-Hawks in Canton on Friday, September 22nd.
Caden Alfson connected with Trevin Price on a 32-yard touchdown pass with 5:27 to go in the first quarter to put the Trojans on the board 6-0. Canton responded with a 10-yard touchdown run with 8:44 to play in the second quarter to tie the game. The C-Hawks took the lead with another 10-yard run with 4:53 remaining in the second quarter. A made two-point conversion put Canton in front 14-6. The score stayed 14-6 at halftime.
Chet Carda had his first of two touchdowns with 7:00 to play in the hird quarter on an 11-yard run. He also scored the two-point conversion to tie the game 14-14. West Central went back in front with 3:39 to play in the third on a 13-yard touchdown run by Alfson. Jude Jarding scored the two-point conversion, and West Central led 22-14.
Canton pulled within two points, 22-20, after a one-yard touchdown run with 11:17 to play in the game. Carda added a 33-yard touchdown run with 4:21 to go and also made the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 30-20. Canton pulled within two points again, 30-28, after a 75-yard touchdown pass and made two-point conversion with 3:23 remaining. The Trojans were forced to punt on their next possession, but the punt was downed inside the five-yard line. Keaton Vessells made the game-sealing sack for a safety with 1:41 to go in the game. Because of the safety, the Trojans got the ball back and were able to kneel down and run out the clock for the win.
