West Central Gold 14U Rallies and Beats Flandreau 14U in Extra Innings

The West Central Gold 14U baseball team rallied from an 11-8 deficit to earn a 13-12 extra inning win over Flandreau on Wednesday, June 28th.

West Central did build an early 4-0 lead.  They scored one run in the top of the first and three more in the top of the second.  Flandreau had a big bottom of the second inning and scored six times to take a 6-4 lead.  West Central got one run in the top of the third, but Flandreau added three more in the bottom of the inning.  After three innings of play, Flandreau led 9-5.

West Central cut the lead to 9-8 after a three-run top of the fourth inning.  Flandreau was able to extend their lead to 11-8 after two runs in the bottom of the fifth.  The score remained 11-9 in favor of Flandreau going into the seven inning.  West Central scored four times to take a 12-11 lead.  Flandreau tied it with a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.  West Central got another run in the top of the eight for a 13-12 advantage.  Flandreau had the tying run on third and game-winning run on second with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, but a line drive was caught at first base to end the game and secure the win.

Jacob Mallinger had two hits, one a double, and four RBIs in the game.  Chase Stromer had two hits and an RBI.  Andrew Holtzman added a hit and an RBI.  Carson Eich, Luke Larson, Chris Ebsen, and Judah Wuebben all had a single in the game.  Noah Erickson had two RBIs, and Kane Grace had one RBI.  Grace pitched five innings and allowed three runs, all unearned, on six hits with three strikeouts.  Eich pitched six innings and allowed nine runs, only two earned, on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.
