Wood Ducks Lose League Game to Salem

The Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks dropped a Cornbelt League game to the Salem Cubs at home on Tuesday, June 13th.   The Cubs took the win 9-6.

Salem put the pressure on early with four runs in the top of the first.  Austin King and Braden Herr both scored on errors in the bottom of the first inning to cut the lead to 4-2.  The Cubs added three more in the top of the third to push the lead to 7-2.  The score remained there until the bottom of the seventh.  Austin Smith had an RBI triple, and Nathan Adrian had an RBI sacrifice fly to bring the Wood Ducks within three, 7-4.  Salem scored two more times in the top of the ninth.  Adrian had a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but the Wood Duck rally was stopped there.

King had two hits.  Adrian had a single and three RBIs.  Smith finished with a triple and an RBI.  Herr, Logan Larsen, and Rob Lind all had a single.  Jesson also had an RBI.  Jason Brown pitched four innings and allowed seven runs, four earned, on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Clint Denboer pitched four innings and allowed just one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.  Smith pitched an inning allowing two earned runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
