West Central Blue 14U won two of their three 1-29 League tournament games held Friday, June 9th through Sunday, June 11th in Flandreau. They earned wins over Canton and Baltic, but lost to Flandreau on Sunday.
West Central 11, Canton 1
A five-run top of the first inning set the tone for West Central in their win on Friday against Canton. Canton’s lone run was scored in the bottom of the first. West Central added three runs each in the top of the second and third innings.
Hayes Cain had a home run and a double with five RBIs. Dylan Bettcher, Ashton Gebhardt, and Eli Koehn all had a single and an RBI each. JT Steckley added an RBI. Gebhardt pitched two innings allowing one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts. Alex Siemonsma pitched 1 2/3 inning allowing a hit and two walks with four strikeouts. Cain pitched 1/3 of an inning recording a strikeout.
West Central 6, Baltic 5
Baltic held an early three run lead in the game on Saturday after scoring three runs in the top of the first. West Central got one run in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game 3-3. Baltic took the lead again with two runs in the top of the fifth. West Central won the game in the bottom of the fifth after Koehn scored on a wild pitch for the third run of the inning.
Bettcher had two hits and an RBI. Cain finished with two singles. Siemonsma and Koehn each had a single in the game. Steckley pitched an inning and allowed three earned runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout. Gebhardt pitched two innings allowing a hit and walk with two strikeouts. Taten Vanoverbeke pitched an inning and walked one and struck out one. Siemonsma pitched an inning allowing two earned runs on three hits and a walk with a strikeout.
Flandreau 13, West Central 9
West Central held a 7-0 lead after the first two innings of play, but Flandreau took the lead for good in the top of the fourth. Flandreau scored four runs in the top of the third and seven more in the top of the fourth for an 11-7 lead. West Central got two runs in the bottom of the fifth only to have Flandreau score two more runs in the top of the sixth.
Gebhardt had a double and two RBIs. Bettcher recorded a single and two RBIs. Vanoverbeke had a hit and an RBI. Siemonsma, Lane Maske, and Braxton Huber all had one hit each. Steckley added an RBI. Gebhardt pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing four unearned runs on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Steckley pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs, four earned, on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Cain pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing two unearned runs on a hit.
